*Alternative Speech:*

PAT: I'm sorry — [She turns to SMITTY, having a hard time swallowing her
pride.] Smitty, mind comin' over here? I want the others to hear what I got
to say. I'm beginnin' to see what there is about me you don't like — I'm
kinda thick-headed that way — but in time, it sinks through. No — let me
get this off my chest first. It just so happens you're the first women I've
ever been jealous of — yeah, jealous. Since we've been up here, you've
always done the things I've wanted to do — the way I've wanted to do them.
Everybody always looked up to you — where I come from, everybody always
looked up to me. I'm not quite through yet. There's the little matter of
Lieutenant Holt. I wanted him. Sure I could have had him — but not in the
way I wanted him — all to myself. I wasn't around him much before I saw
that was out — there was only one of us who have had him that way and that
was you.
