Theatre Agápe presents Seussical the Musical!
As an Inclusive and Adaptive Theatre Experience
Experience Dr. Seuss as you’ve never seen it before!
Theatre Agápe is putting their service where their art is. As their 2nd annual inclusive mainstage musical, rehearsals are underway for Seussical the Musical to be presented as an adaptive production.
Implementing efforts to overcome barriers to entry, Theatre Agápe seeks to build a sustainable, inclusive, and adaptive theatrical experience for the benefit of ALL. The cast is filled with people of varying abilities – neurodivergence, developmental disabilities, physical limitations – who alongside neurotypical folks help to present the show.
The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
Running November 8th-10th and 15th-17th, all performances are held at The Cultural Arts Center at Disciples Christian Church on Mayfield Road in Cleveland Heights. The facility is entirely ADA compliant, and further accommodations for accessibility can be made.
All tickets are general admission and Pay-What-You-Like. All performances are sensory-friendly and will offer a Sensory Break Room. This is the perfect opportunity to introduce musical theater to “youngsters” or people who have felt too intimidated by a typical theater setting.
Curtain for Friday and Saturday performances is 7:30pm with doors opening at 7:00pm.
Curtain for Sunday performances is 3:00pm with doors opening at 2:30pm.
