Mondays Beginner Balboa 7:00 to 8:00 pm. # Classes: 5 Date: Mondays, April 13th until May 11th, 2015 Instructor: Multi-year national and international Balboa champion Valerie Salstrom and long time Balboa dancer Loreto Agdinaoay Jr. Balboa and Bal-Swing are dances that originated in the crowded ballrooms of Southern California in the 1930s. The Balboa is loved for it's precise footwork, close connection, finesse and the ability to be done quite easily at all tempos. Balboa is most often done to big band swing from the 1930s. Balboa is said to be the Tango of the Swing world. If you are interested in developing and refining your leading or following abilities, then Balboa is definitely the dance for you! You do not need previous Balboa experience or dance experience to take this class. These would include up hold and down hold basics, progressives, scootches, paddle turns, crab walks, come arounds, lollies, and out & ins) This class will focus on variations on the basics, transitions, throw outs and multiple variations on throw outs. Be ready for some cool footwork variations as well. If you have taken a beginner Balboa class with Get Hep Swing before you are most likely ready to take this class. Followers may want to wear at least a low heeled shoe for all of the Balboa classes. Leather soled shoes are best for balboa. Tuesdays Beginner Jitterbug/East Coast Swing/Swing dancing 7:00 to 8:00 pm. # Classes: 5 Date: Tuesdays, April 14th until May 12th, 2015 Instructor: Get Hep Swing owner and multi-year national and international swing dance champion Valerie Salstrom and long time swing dancer and swing dance teacher, Paul Carryer We make learning how to partner dance FUN! Learn the easiest form of partnered dancing – The Jitterbug! Also known as East Coast Swing or just Swing. We will dance to a variety of styles of music including big band swing, early rock & roll, blues and R & B! You will learn the basic footwork patterns and how to lead and follow a fun mix of spins and turns in open and closed position. Learning to swing dance is a great way to meet people and get some exercise too! In this class you will learn some really eye catching moves, turns, and footwork variations. Good technique will be emphasized too. New moves are taught every session and you can take this class multiple times and always come away with new material. You must have proficient skills in Jitterbug to feel comfortable taking this course. Please wear shoes that are comfortable and will allow you to pivot and twist. Comfy attire is a good idea too. You do NOT need a partner to take this class however, there is a discounted rate for people who sign up as a couple with one person assuming the role of leader and the other person assuming the role of follower. We rotate partners during the class so you will have the chance to dance with all of the other students and the teachers as well.
