About the play: Clearing is a coming of age dramedy about body image and female friendships. The play explores the pressure that society places on women and what happens when that pressure becomes too much to bear. Character Breakdowns: **All roles are open to actors of any ethnicity** Jess: Early-mid 20s. A new employee at an athletic apparel store. A dancer who's not dancing anymore. Smart, sensitive, but afraid to assert herself. A little bit of a follower. She's new to yoga, but she's a natural--she's always expressed herself best through movement. Lost; searching. Clare: Mid-late 20s. A manager at an athletic apparel store. Cult-leader charismatic. Warm and winning, but with an iron backbone. An extremely poised, confident yogi and leader. Always knows exactly what to say; always on. Never had an awkward phase. Agnes: Early-mid 20s. An employee at the athletic apparel store, and Jess's best friend from college. An artist whose apartment is probably full of plants. Passionate, moral, and unafraid to speak her mind. Unself-consciously alternative; self-consciously into astrology. **This role has already been cast** Carly: Mid 20s. An employee at the athletic apparel store. Biting, guarded, and status-conscious, but sometimes has the capacity to shower you with affirmation and fun. From money. Extremely loyal to her ride or dies and deadly serious about how many Instagram followers she has. Has always had more guy friends than girl friends. Becca: Mid 20s. An employee at the athletic apparel store. Sweet, effusive, and achingly vulnerable. Desperately wants to be included but pretty much never has been. Her mom is her best friend. Hiding some very serious pain beneath her bubbly exterior. The friend who you always forget to BCC on party invitations.
