I HATE HAMLET by Paul Rudnick Directed by Jerry C. Jaffe Show dates: Oct 31-Nov 10 Auditions: Sept 3 and 4 from 4-6 or by appointment Callbacks (if necessary) Sept 5 4-6 Auditions will be comprised of cold readings from the script and improv games. Come dressed to move. Actors needed. Also, stage manager needed (contact Dr. Jaffe if interested!) Synopsis: Set in John Barrymore's old apartment in New York City, the play follows successful television actor Andrew Rally as he struggles with taking on the dream role of Hamlet, dealing with a girlfriend who is keeping a firm grip on her chastity, and playing host to the ghost of John Barrymore, who, clothed as Hamlet, has come back to earth for the sole purpose of convincing Rally to play the part. Available roles are include: *Felicia Dantine—described as bustling, tall, and imposing. Real state agent, also a psychic and excited to be around Hollywood types. *Deirdre McDavey—the living embodiment of “ingénue” and love interest o Andrew. Not dumb, but constantly in a state of melodrama and awe. *Lillian Troy—Andrew’s agent, described as in her 70s with a German accent *Gary Peter Lefkowitz—Andrew’s producer friend from Hollywood. Constantly on the hustle. He personifies LA shaggy-chic. *John Barrymore—The ghost of John Barrymore, mentoring Andrew. A larger-than-life icon of the theatre. He should be grand, a bit of a ham, but with real affection for Andrew and for the role of Hamlet. (resemblance not required!) The role of Andrew, the young man who must play Hamlet, has already been cast. These auditions are open to community, everyone is welcome to attend. Actors under the age 18 will require parental consent to perform if cast. Location: Lake Erie College - 391 W. Washington St. Painesville, Ohio 44077. Auditions will be held in the Royce Hall for the Fine and Performing Arts, accessed through Gillette St. (The west side of the campus).
