*Costume Shop Supervisor* *Division of Arts & Humanities* Reporting to the Dean of Arts and Humanities, the Costume Shop Supervisor is responsible for but not limited to: scheduling costume lab hours for students enrolled in theatre courses, instructing students in the technical aspects of costume construction and the proper and safe use of associated machinery; evaluating students’ work; designing costumes for Theatre Department productions; producing patterns from costume renderings and sketches; supervising and/or performing patterning, construction, assembling and fitting of costumes for theatre departmental productions; making alterations generated from fittings and dress rehearsals; and ensuring that costumes maintain their appearance and are appropriately cleaned after productions on and off campus. Typical functions and activities include but are not limited to: being responsible for researching the proper attire for productions to create the desired look established by the director; providing leadership in coordinating purchases of all construction materials and/or rentals within the production budget; creating costumes based on the criteria established by the production director and ensuring that all costumes are ready in a timely manner; providing direction for designers on the use of materials, methods of construction and ensuring that designers remain on time and within budget for the production; creating and maintaining systems to ensure the organization of costume vault, processing of clothing donations, and oversight of rental and billing of costumes to external groups; serving as the liaison between costumers, staff, directors and actors; being responsible for coordinating costume changes backstage and providing assistance to actors in changing costumes during productions; providing maintenance of the Costume Shop including ensuring necessary supplies are available and secure and that equipment is in working order; being responsible for recruiting, scheduling and supervising assistants and/or volunteers to prepare for productions; providing assistance in the development of costume budgets and play selections; providing ideas, drawings and suggestions to production directors as appropriate to ensure successful productions; supporting other campus offices in matters related to fabric or textile care and repair, such as commencement robes, Physical Plant, etc.; interacting with other members of the campus community in areas of mutual concern; and assuming other duties as assigned by the Dean. *Job requires occasional evenings and/or weekend hours.* *Required Qualifications:* A Bachelor’s degree; at least two years practical work experience in the design and construction of theatre costumes including ability to operate a sewing machine and perform basic sewing, patterning and clothing construction; supervisory experience. *Preferred Qualifications:* Theater degree; strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; knowledge of, respect for and skills to engage with (or ability to develop) other cultures or backgrounds; and valid driver’s license.
