Auditions for the Workshop Players production of the family comedy SQUABBLES by Marshall Karp will be held Monday, December 5 and Wednesday, December 7 at 7 p.m. each evening. Director Brad Sales seeks to cast three (3) women and four (4) men. Production dates are February 9, 10, 11, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 SYNOPSIS: Jerry Sloan is a successful advertising writer and his wife, Alice, is a successful lawyer. Living with the Sloans is Alice's father, Abe, a humorously grouchy septuagenarian. When a house fire displaces Jerry's mother, Mildred, she comes to live "temporarily " with the Sloans. Of course, Mildred and Abe can't stand each other, and, with Alice expecting a baby, one of the in-laws has got to go. A series of silly squabbles gives way to a heartwarming conclusion. ROLES: Jerry Sloan (age 30-45)-- Advertising jingle writer whose patience and sensibility is about to be vigorously and humorously tested (must sing a couple of jingles) Alice Sloan (late 20s-40)-- Successful attorney who is expecting her first baby but is not expecting her mother-in-law Abe Dreyfus (65-75)-- Alice's curmudgeon of a father who believes that arguments are essential to good health Mildred Sloan (60-75)-- Jerry's assertive mother who firmly stands her ground against Abe while she stakes out new territory in her son's home Hector Lopez (30-50)-- Handyman, gardener and jack-of-all-trades with a cheerful disposition and a constant need of a bathroom Sol Wasserman (60-75)-- The Sloans' neighbor, a retired pharmacist who is also Abe's card-playing buddy Mrs. Fisher (45-55)-- The Sloan baby's starchy, authoritarian nurse whose best friend probably calls her "Mrs. Fisher" Auditions will be conducted at the Workshop Players Theater located at 44820 Middle Ridge Rd. in Amherst and will consist of readings from the script.
