“One flew east, one flew west, one flew over the cuckoo’s nest.” Western Reserve Playhouse presents the searing drama One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Dale Wasserman, based on the book by Ken Kesey. The show will run during Mental Health Awareness Month, May 18-26. As part of their commitment to community awareness, WRP is partnering with Portage Path Behavioral Health to bring you this show. In doing so, WRP & PPBH will be holding talkbacks after the performance on May 25th. These talkbacks will include the ability to talk with the cast and director, as well as different clinicians who specialize in mental illness. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is the story of McMurphy, a charming rogue who contrives to serve a short sentence in an airy mental institution rather than in a prison. While there, he clashes with Head Nurse Ratched, who has no time for his nonsense. McMurphy quickly takes over the yard and accomplishes what the medical profession has been unable to do for years: He leads others out of introversion, stages a revolt so that they can see the World Series on television and arranges a rollicking midnight party with liquor and women. After a tragic event occurs, Ratched and McMurphy go head-to-head – and only one of them will win this battle. Co-Artistic Director Brian Westerley directs this stunning play. Award-winning actress April Deming is the formidable Nurse Ratched, while newcomer to WRP Ryan Rasnick tackles McMurphy. The other patients are played by Joe Turner, Andrew Gordon, Dennis Burby, Craig Webb, Marc Dusini & Irv Korman. Rounding out the cast are Abby Morris, Vince Sarowatz, Bradley Haramis, David Wagar, Mikhayla Wilkins and Annette Fernandez. The show contains adult language and themes.
