Books were for burning, along with the houses in which they were hidden. *Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires. He had been a fireman for ten years. and he had never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs nor the joy of watching pages consumed by flames...never questioned anything until he met a 17-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid. Then Guy met a professor who told him of a future in which people could think. And Guy Montag suddenly realized what he had to do... * *Eligibility:* You must be 13-19 years old in order to audition. *Shows:* May 13 and 14 at 7:30pm, May 15 at 2pm *Possible school day performances May 19 and 20 * *Rehearsals:* Rehearsals are Monday-Thursday 6:30-9 and Sundays 5-8. Rehearsals begin tentatively March 21. Not everyone will be called every day. *Audition Information:* Please prepare a memorized first-person monologue from a play or a book no longer than 60 seconds. You will also read from the script. Familiarity with the original novel Fahrenheit 451 is not required but recommended. *Audition Dates:* Friday February 26, 6:30-9:00 Saturday February 27, 2:00-5:00 All auditions will be at the GLTG Arts Center at 106 Water Street in Chardon. *Available Roles:* *With the exception of Guy, Mildred, and Clarisse, gender neutral casting will be considered for all roles. * GUY MONTAG: Rash, determined to break free of his ignorance. Has a hard time thinking for himself. Is realizing the emptiness of his life and beginning to search for meaning in the books he is supposed to be burning. BEATTY: Seeking a strong, authoritative actor for this role. Captain of the fire department. Cunning, devious, perceptive. CLARISSE: 17 years old. An outcast, odd, loves to ask questions. Innocent and curious. MILDRED: Guy's wife. Small-minded, childish. Obsessed with television. Does not understand her husband and has no desire to do so. Harbors emotional pain. FABER: Cowardly but is capable of dangerous acts. A retired English professor who still possesses some illegal books. Is determined to change the current state of society.
