STAGED READING -- Millennial Theatre Project Presidents "Trial By Fire" July 6 at Akron-Summit County Public Library Auditorium
The Millennial Theatre Project is hosting a staged reading of Trial By Fire, written by Eric Mansfield Trial By Fire, an original drama written by award-winning playwright Eric Mansfield, will enjoy a public reading at the Akron-Summit County Public Library auditorium July 6 at 6:30 p.m. This will be the first public performance of the script, which follows a young woman of color in Ohio who is put on trial for allowing banned books to be used by her students. The Summit County Library system is supporting and programming the event<https://akronlibrary.libnet.info/event/8421356> as the debate over banned books has become a growing issue across the country. Francine Parr is directing the performance with actors from the Millennial Theatre Project bringing the play to life. The event is free, and there will be a short talkback following the staged reading. Makeshift Theatre in Akron is posting a call for directors to work in its Therapeutic Theater program. Expand your skills and your horizons in this new, exciting field of theater arts by becoming a director of Therapeutic Theater. Makeshift Theater is leading a collaborative effort to use dramatic performance in the treatment of those recovering from substance addition and serious trauma. Working with Oriana House and 2nd Act, we will be hiring and training directors to work with selected participants in creating individual performances. Training will be done by qualified drama therapists. Makeshift will provide a performance area, equipment, props, costumes and sets. This is a pilot program which will begin January, 2024 and conclude June, 2024. Additional performances may be scheduled. Directors will be paid an $30.00 an hour. We are seeking 5-6 directors to receive the training and work with us as we expand beyond the pilot period. Training will begin in October, 2023 for three months. Makeshift Theatre in Akron is seeking a House Manager for a part-time contract with flexible hours, and work-from-home optional. This position is for an independent contractor who will work on an hourly basis for six months beginning January 2024. The expectation is 10-20 hours per work at $28 per hour with no benefits of paid leave. Duties include: set up, install and manage hardware and software for scheduling, ticketing, inventory of concessions and equipment, updating social media and the theatre’s website, also attending performances, assisting performers, selling tickets and concessions and supervising janitorial services. Skills required: competent use of Office 365 and comparable software, computer functions, website updates and social media. Works well with diverse groups.
