Hey folks,

The following is a news release for a great cafe that's very supportive of local artists. They are having a sidewalk sale and silent auction of works by local artists to raise money for expansion of the place. Hope you'll stop by and support the place, or check it out sometime.

Arts Café Blooms and Grows

Jimmy's Café, 2028 Chestnut Blvd, Cuyahoga Falls, will be celebrating the kickoff of its new addition and renovation from 9 am - 5 pm, Sunday, April 27 with a sidewalk sale, raffle and silent auction. Everything from art to house wares will be for sale. The festivities will also include live music and dollar hot dogs. Call 330-923-3660 for more information or to donate items.

When completed, the added space will greatly increase the indoor dining area and house the art studio of Alex Natko. Visitors will be able to observe as Natko creates mixed media artwork drawn largely from recycled materials. Bands will play every Friday evening. Hours will be expanded to include lunches. The kitchen will introduce a menu of sandwiches, salads, Cajun dishes and desserts. The drinks selection will continue to feature specialty flavored coffees, teas and French and Italian sodas.

"Basically, the new addition is going to allow us to do so much more than we were able to do with the limited space we had," says owner and creator of the café, Jimmy Van Hoose. The expansion was made possible following the vacancy of a beauty salon next door. The acquisition of that space has allowed the little coffeehouse to more than double its size.

Since its appearance less than a year ago, the neighborhood café and its creator have been the recipients of much local attention. Colorful exterior renovations, including a patio addition and blooming plants, earned Jimmy's Café the 2002 Beautification Award Grand Prize from the City of Cuyahoga Falls. Van Hoose was also the February 2003 Featured Artist on ARTScleveland.com, an online artists community.

"Café Owner" is only the most recent hat worn by the versatile Van Hoose. A former high school teacher, professional masseur, and world traveler, he also knows a little something about the restaurant business. His experience as the onetime owner of New Orleans restaurant Artistes is reflected in the recipes he brought back to share with his current customers.

As for making a living as an artist and entrepreneur during an economic downturn, Van Hoose says, "It's rough, especially with all the extra expenses during the expansion process. But the customers are so great, so supportive and helpful. They've been wonderful, and I look forward to this new beginning."
