Near West Theatre opens its 26th Season with an original work=97Hercules =
vs. Godzilla=97on Friday, Oct. 3. Performances are one weekend only and =
conclude with a Sunday, Oct. 5, matinee. =20

Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinee =
starts at 3 p.m.  All tickets are $6 and include general admission =
seating. Parking is free and guarded. Reservations are recommended. =

Performances are at St. Pat=92s Club Building, 3606 Bridge Ave., in Ohio =
City (at the corner of W. 38th & Bridge Ave.).  For more information, =

Sponsored by the City of Cleveland, Department of Community Development, =
SoftRock, 102.1 FM WDOK, and Thompson Hine, Hercules vs. Godzilla is an =
original script (written by NWT=92s Associate Artistic Director, Jodi =
Maile) that fuses modern pop icons, rock music and media images with the =
classic mythology of ancient Greece. In creating this comic and often =
poignant retelling of the stories of Hercules, Persephone, Narcissus and =
Pandora, cast members (ages 9-13) are asked to examine questions and =
issues concerning beauty and body image, the true nature of heroism, the =
ramifications of media bombardment as well as the universal themes of =
individual will and fate.

Since 1978, Near West Theatre has provoked theatre through a process =
that is intense, challenging and transforming=97for participants and =
audience alike. People from all walks of life come together to be =
challenged=97by sharing their unique life stories and experiences=97to =
find their own voices and to make personal connections with the =
production. Through this sometimes rugged and ragged process, people not =
only discover themselves in new ways but relate to each other through =
the medium of theatre. Connections are made. Community is formed. The =
result is authentic, raw and passionate theatre.
