Dobama Theatre Working with LifeBanc to Prepare for The Domino Heart

Dobama Theatre has been working with non-profit organ procurement
organization for Northeast Ohio, LifeBanc, in preparation for the U.S.
Premiere of The Domino Heart by Matthew Edison, at Dobama October 17 through
November 9.

In The Domino Heart, professor and mother Cara Fortree is widowed. Reverend
Mortimer Wright is sleepless. Young advertising executive Leo Juarez waits.
In the night sky above, a helicopter carries the organ that will connect
them all.

The Domino Heart director and Dobama’s Artistic Director, Joyce Casey, has
visited the LifeBanc office and spoken with staff members. LifeBanc
Community Education Coordinator Stephanie Jansky arranged for the cast to
meet a "donor mom," a heart recipient, and Deborah Johnston, Family Support
Coordinator. Casey also visited the transplant ward, speaking with nurses
and patients.

LifeBanc will display materials in Dobama's lobby through the run of the
play. In addition LifeBanc will staff post-performance discussions with
Dobama audiences on October 25th and 30th. There has also been discussion
of Dobama actors performing the play for transplant patients.

Through preparation for The Domino Heart, Dobama’s staff members have become
aware of the critical need for organ and tissue donations. As of August
6th, 76 people in Northeast Ohio are on the national wait list for a heart.
Therefore, Dobama will use the opportunity of the production to inform
audiences. Dobama Theatre staff members will mention organ donation in
pre-curtain welcomes of audience members and stuff programs with donor
registration brochures.
