Fellow Cleveland Artists,

Before I begin I must say I have never posted anything like this before.
I have never taken the time to write a letter to a cast or theatre about
any production and in this case one page cannot say everything I want
to.  However, I will try to be brief.

=20

I am a very firm believer in the power of theatre.  I believe that
theatre not only allows us to understand the human condition, but it can
inspire people to act.  Theatre effects, evokes and changes our
perception of how we view the world.  But when does theatre become
=93ART?=94  How often do all of the variables that go into a production
align in order to create a communal experience between audience and
actors that transcends time, space and all preconceptions of the world?
VERY=85VERY=85RARELY.  In fact I can count the number of times on one =
hand
that any art has effected me and made me want to act---made me want to
go out and change the world!

The amazing artists involved with the production of Hair at
Baldwin-Wallace College have accomplished this=85and much-much more!

=20

The importance and relevance of the story that they told not only
reminded me of the incredible difficulties that our country suffered,
but it also gave me the raw sense of confusion that existed.  I watched
as young people honestly struggled for an understanding of =93WHY?=94  =
Why
send our young men to die by the thousands?  How is it possible that a
man=92s destiny is not his own?  Can we believe what is told to us by
those in power?  This ensemble masterpiece not only evoked these
feelings in me, but they also incited me.  They have made me want to
make a difference!  Make a change! Today and Now! =20

It was crystal clear through the entire evening of how relevant this
story is today.  Before I left my office I read the Yahoo! News alert
that a helicopter was down and another 6 American soldiers had lost
their life.  I have a young man in a show here at the Carousel Dinner
Theatre whose father was killed in Iraq on October 1st, 3 weeks prior to
him beginning rehearsal.  I am very alarmed about this and I don't think
I stand alone!

If any members of the cast are reading I want to say thank you.  Thank
you for sharing your hearts and souls.  Thank you for helping me realize
and understand some things about my art, the world and myself.  Thank
you for your energy and courage in communing with the audience.  It was
only by you truly engaging me, speaking to me and laughing with me that
I was able to be open to your gift.  What your doing is incredibly
important, infectious and at least by this theatre professionals
standards, was considered ART!

Those of us in the greater Cleveland Arts Community need to experience
the work of these young professionals.  MAKE THE TIME TO GO SEE THIS
SHOW!!!  DO NOT LET THIS ONE PASS!!!  One last thank you must go to
