The film restoration of the year! Sam Fuller's epic anti-war film - in
which a grizzled sergeant (Lee Marvin) leads his 1st Infantry Division
Squad from North Africa to Omaha Beach to a Czech death camp - was Sam
Fuller's dream project for many decades. But when he finally got to
shoot the movie in the late 1970's, it was on a reduced budget. Then
the finished film was severely cut by its distributor. Now, almost 25
years later, critic and filmmaker Richard Schickel has returned to
Fuller's original script and restored 50 minutes of footage, including
15 new scenes. The result is vintage Fuller - pulpy and powerful, comic
