CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

BOBBY CHILD, a young man in love with musical theatre; has the charm and =
grace of Fred Astaire, must be an excellent singer/actor/tap dancer; teno=
r/lyric baritone

POLLY BAKER, postmistress, "All American Girl" and can be a bit of a tomb=
oy and the grace of Ginger Rogers; strong belter and good dancer with at =
least some tap

BELA ZANGLER, an established Broadway producer; must have good comic timi=
ng and a flawless Hungarian accent

IRENE ROTH, a society debutante and Bobby's fianc=E9e; sings a fierce tor=
ch song

MOTHER (Mrs. Lottie Child) Bobby's business oriented and domineering moth=
er; a great character role that does not require strong singing or dancin=
g

PERKINS, Mother's business assistant; may be doubled with CUSTUS

LANK HAWKINS, a saloon proprietor, sort of the "bad guy" in the play

EVERETT BAKER, Polly's father, owner of the Gaiety Theatre; does not have=
 to be a strong singer

EUGENE FODOR, an English tourist with a flawless Brit accent and good com=
ic timing

PATRICIA FODOR, Eugene's companion; must also have a Brit accent and comi=
c timing

FOLLIES GIRLS (CHORUS) All must be excellent tappers
	TESS, a dance director, Zangler's favorite
	PATSY, a showgirl with a high squeaking voice, not too bright
	MITZI, a principal dancer
	ELAINE, LOUISE, SUSIE, BETSY, MARGIE, SHEILA, VERA

COWBOYS (CHORUS) At least three must be excellent dancers
	MOOSE, a BIG guy, sings in the Cowboy Trio with close harmony
	MINGO and SAM, also in the Cowboy Trio
	HARRY, a bartender
	BILLY and WYATT, saloon card players
	JUNIOR, saloon piano player
	PETE, CUSTUS and JIMMY

GYMNAST (male), for numerous acrobatic stunts. =20

These roles may be doubled with FOLLIES GIRL and/or COWBOYS or cast with =
Non-Singer/Dancers:  SHOWGIRLS, STAGE MANAGER and STAGE HANDS all at Zang=
ler's Theatre; LACKEYS (for Zangler); CHAUFFEUR (for Mother); BOARD OF DI=
RECTORS (from the Mother's Bank); STREET CROWD; POLICEMAN


WE WILL BE CASTING APPROXIMATELY 40 PEOPLE IN THE SHOW, AND ALL ROLES ARE=
 OPEN.
