Dear Mary, and other fellow "actors",
Thank you for your resume to Neopal disguised as outrage over our very
successful meeting.
Mary - READ OVER YOUR OWN LETTER and then ask yourself why you are not a
SAG member after all these years, - approaching the business your way.
Funny, my method of never selling myself short made me an AFTRA member
after about 6 months of becoming a professional actor, and a SAG member after
about 5 years.
YOU may not care that clients are running your commercials potentially
FOREVER, but obviously SAG signatories do.
So, for all you new talent out there, I guess it's your choice how to
approach the business. We, as working actors are just trying to help you not get
caught in a vicious cycle of working for little to nothing with no promise for
your future.
Our effort is to lift up our occupation so that people like Mary won't
spend their lives hoping to become SAG and be paid well.
I do free projects for artistic reasons, and for my friends who do not
intend to make a profit off of me.
We want this movement to be positive. It may not always be pretty, because
we are fighting some myopic views about the worth of talent. Stay tuned for
our progress on just one major breakthrough on a recent call for free actors.
-Shelly Marks
