JOB DESCRIPTION: MANAGING DIRECTOR

The Managing Director is a hands-on position, with responsibility for all=
 marketing, front-of-house, office, and general day-to-day business activ=
ities of the theater. 

Marketing consists of all direct and indirect efforts to generate ticket =
sales, concession sales, theater rental, road bookings, training center r=
evenue, and a host of other earned-income activities. The Managing Direct=
or will conduct market research, create marketing plans, recommend income=
 goals, and manage all tasks related to single-ticket sales, group sales,=
 and all other efforts to maximize the customer base. This would include =
audience development (researching, creating, nurturing, and expanding the=
 customer base), targeted marketing (directing marketing and audience-dev=
elopment initiatives to a specific customer group and carefully measuring=
 the results), and positioning (establishing a unique identity for the th=
eater). The Managing Director is also in charge of all publications, incl=
uding sales brochures, show programs, and any other informational brochur=
es. Also included is management of the website.Press and public relations=
 are also incorporated into this role. The Managing Director will plan, i=
nitiate, and coordinate the media plan and the communication of press rel=
eases, public service announcements, media relations, and photography nee=
ds with the goal of building awareness and relationships in the long term=
, thus contributing to audience development and sales in more subtle and =
strategic ways. This will all need to be accomplished with a limited mark=
eting budget, so creativity and resourcefulness will be key. 

Front-of-house management includes directing box office and souvenir stan=
d activities. The Managing Director recruits, orients, and trains the box=
 office and souvenir stand staff involved in daily communications, public=
 relations, marketing, financial transactions, and accounting of all tick=
et and souvenir sales. This responsibility also includes ordering ticket =
stock, controlling point-of-sale equipment, and managing the souvenir inv=
entory. The Managing Director also recruits, orients, and trains all host=
s and ushers, and works with the Artistic Director to schedule and organi=
ze all events held at the theater. Managing the front-of-house also inclu=
des coordinating all activities with the partner restaurant and bar. This=
 includes tracking and reporting all food and beverage sales. Finally, th=
is position is also responsible for all issues relating to the facility, =
including ensuring that all utility systems are fully operational and ins=
pected in accordance with preventative maintenance schedules, scheduling =
and supervising janitorial services, ensuring that the seating area is ad=
equately prepared for each performance or special event (cleanliness, pro=
grams on tables, etc.), and security.

Included in management of theoffice are all budgeting and financial plann=
