Dustin,

Please show me where it says that "professional" and Equity are one and the
same. The Bang and the Clatter or any other theatre company is free to call
themselves professional without necessarily having to be affiliated with
AEA. There are plenty of quality non-union, professional productions out
there. And, dare I say it, there are some wonderful "amateur" productions
out there as well. I firmly believe that even at the community theatre
level, one can have professional level standards, though there are community
theatres out there that put the "amateur" in amateur theatre. But that's a
different discussion altogether.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing in regards to recent postings on NEohioPAL.  I am continually
concerned and offended by area theaters calling themselves professional when
they have no association with the union.  

            A recent theater, the Bang and the Clatter, has been quoted in
their postings as the 'Ohio's newest professional t heater' when, in fact, I
see no information on the equity website.  Upon further research, it seems
they have NO affiliation with the union, whatsoever.  Would someone please
explain to me why this company (or any others like it) can be called
professional?
