            LIVE, LOUD & LOCAL
featuring The Whiskeyhounds,
The Pat Sweany Band,
and The Chittlin' Trio
  Saturday, April 1
8:00 PM
Singer/ guitarist Patrick Sweany, originally hailing from Massillon, Ohio performs a mixture of musical styles, drawing on the traditions of the Mississippi delta and Northeastern Hill country, the wild jug band sounds of Memphis, early piedmont and ragtime blues fingerpicking, the driving boogie of the West Helena, Arkansas slide guitar tradition, the howl of the early Texas bluesmen, and a little West Coast Swing and New Orleans R&B. These diverse influences come together seamlessly in Patrick's recording debut, I Wanna' Tell You, and come into full fruition on henryfordbedroom, to showcase a unique style, firmly rooted in the blues, but unquestionably his own. This unique style was culled from years of careful listening to his father's own playing at home and in church, as well as his extensive record collection of both blues and folk artists. Patrick found in such diverse artists as Charlie Patton, Fred MacDowell, Lightnin' Hopkins, Memphis Slim, Jimmy Witherspoon,
Wes Montgomery and Leadbelly, a universal element that spoke to him, and would not to be denied. Perfectly comfortable in either solo or group formats, this multi-faceted artist performs with relentless enthusiasm, energy, and jaw-dropping showmanship.
The Whiskeyhounds have quickly gained a reputation for their wildly energetic live shows. Not content to remain within the confines of story songs or murder ballads, they also boast a set of raucous primal blues. The Whiskeyhounds broad and dynamic appeal has allowed them to share the stage with such artists as Dave Alvin, Junior Brown, Bobby Bare Jr., and the legendary Levon Helm of The Band.
Buckeye brand Americana: Creating anthems to sew up whatever holes might appear in the fabric of American society, Roger Hoover and the Whiskeyhounds are arguably one of Northeast Ohio's greatest musical treasures, channeling influences (Hank Williams and Johnny Cash) and following idols (Tom Waits and Elvis Costello) to become a critically acclaimed blues-based, alt-country band on the rise.~ THE PLAIN DEALER

  The Chittlin' Trio
She's country. She's indie rock, She's folk and soul. She's all of them and none of them. Chittlin's sweet sound is at once haunting and soothing; a blend of different styles that results in a very unique brand of music, which she dubs "Alt. Music."

Chittlin' is making a name for herself by being distinct. While most musicians rush to place themselves in a cozy category, She went ahead and carved her own. Weather its delivering a mesmerizing "classic country" tinged balled on her guitar, or stomping out an "indie rock" anthem on her banjo, Chittlin' writes and performes with a sensitivity, rawness, and confidence well beyond her years.

Growing up in a musical household, Chittlin' found her flair for music early on. She was performing with her family band "One Way Rider" by age 8, and today plays the bass, guitar, and banjo. Currently she still tours with her family, playing rhythm guitar and singing lead and harmony vocals. She also plays bass in the popular Country Rock group "Wagon". But to truly understand Chittlin' is to see her in her element. Presenting her own original material solo, or with minimal accompaniment

  Angie Hiemann
Tuesday 4th @ 8PM
  Kent Stage lobby

What's the recipe for Angie Heimann? Start out with fresh, free-range lyrics. Add sweet ripe vocals. Throw in a heaping helping of arpeggiated guitar, and a pinch of endearing stage presence. Place on a well-lit stage and enjoy.
Though she's new on the scene as a full time folkstress, Heimann began writing and strumming at age 13, when her dad taught her "Puff the Magic Dragon" on guitar. After graduating from Miami University with a focus in creative writing and women's studies, Angie took her guitar out of its case for good and put her writing skills to work.
Since then, she has released three albums: "Homeslices" in 2003, "Substantial Snacks" in 2001 and "Cinnamon Bones" in 2000. Along with providing a special treat for her audiences to take home, Angie's albums have begun to win a bit of critical acclaim. In October 2003, Angie's songs "Giving Tree" and "Ruby Red Shoes" (from "Homeslices") made the finals of the South Florida Folk Festival. "Cinnamon Bones" was nominated by Just Plain Folks in 2001 for best new folk album of the year. Angie's song "Butterfly," about a woman regrowing her wings after the ending of a relationship, won third place in the folk/country category of the Oklahoma Songwriters Association songwriting competition in 2001.
So what is it about Angie's songs that make them so special? For one, Angie's lyrics offer the diversity of a nine-course meal- they are savory yet nutritious. Angie sings about every-day topics: a bad haircut, a childhood memory of her parents' divorce, her love for a small town, and her little bladder blues. Angie's fundamental beliefs- that people are good at heart, that life is short and precious, and that true loving is not what they say it is on TV or most radios stations- come through as plainly as potatoes in her songs.
And what about her live performance? A Kent, OH native, Angie started out playing the northeast Ohio circuit of colleges, festivals, bars and coffee shops. After satisfying the locals with some scrumptious tunes, Angie and her guitar ventured out across the states to offer a taste to the rest of the country to play at colleges, clubs and festivals. In the process, she's selling CD's, receiving air play on folk radio, earning songwriting awards and establishing a fan base of listeners who know they've discovered something novel and nutritious.
In a world overrun by pop radio, which doles out songs much like fast food chains serve up burgers and fries, Angie Heimann's music is a fresh, organic treat.

Casey Driessen and Dennis Crouch
2005 Grammy Award Winner

  Saturday, April 8
8:00 PM
Tim O'Brien is one of the spearheads of contemporary bluegrass. As co- founder and lead vocalist of Hot Rize and Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers, O'Brien served as a bridge between the traditional sounds of the hill country and the modern styles of bluegrass in the 1980s. Since the band's breakup, O'Brien has continued to expand the music's borders as a soloist, a duo partner with his sister Mollie, and with his band, the O'Boys. O'Brien's songs have additionally been recorded by Kathy Mattea, the Seldom Scene, New Grass Revival, and the Johnson Mountain Boys.
Over the last 30 years, Tim O'Brien has become one of the most respected and beloved singers and musicians in the ever-growing Americana explosion. Nominated for three Grammys and the winner of the 1993 International Bluegrass Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year, he is well known for his pitch-perfect voice and amazing talent with multiple instruments. Throughout his career he has played everything from swing to traditional, bluegrass to country. His reputation as a perfect representative of this fusion was cemented when he was recently asked to serve as president for the IBMA, an organization that believes in honoring "all the roots and branches," according to O'Brien. His songs have been covered by such artists as the Dixie Chicks, Garth Brooks, Kathy Mattea, and Nickel Creek and he's produced several other artists, including the Yonder Mountain String Band and Balfa Toujours.

        BILL HALEY'S COMETS
and
THE DELL VIKINGS

  Sunday, April 9
7:00 PM
Bill Haley's Comets is the group that most rock historians consider to have put Rock and Roll in the spotlight. Most people agree that they contributed more than any other group in making Rock n' Roll the most popular music genre in the world! This group has more "firsts" under their belts than any other band in the history of Rock n' Roll including...
  THE FIRST:
Rock n' Roll Million Seller
Rock n' Roll Gold Record Award
Rock n' Roll World Tour
Rock n' Roll English Million Seller
Rock n' Roll Band to star in a movie
Rock n' Roll Band on National TV
Their hit songs make up the entire first chapter in the bible of Rock n' Roll. "See You Later Alligator" sold 10 million copies and gave the world a phrase that's still quoted by every teenager. "Rock Around the Clock" sold over 100 million copies and is still selling! The First Rock n' Roll # 1 Hit. "Shake Rattle & Roll" sold 15 million copies and is still selling. "Skinny Minnie" "Razzle Dazzle" "The Saints Rock & Roll" "Rock a Beatin' Boogie" "Mambo Rock" "Crazy Man Crazy" "Dim Dim The Lights" and dozens of others selling well in to the 100s of millions worldwide.
The Legend continues with Bill Haley's Comets featuring John "Bam Bam" Lane who joined Bill Haley and his Comets in 1964 and is now leader of the group that's been pakcing 10s of thousands of loyal fans into concerts, clubs, fairs, casinos and every venue they've played.
Performing all of the hits that made Bill Haley's Comets a household name they bring your audience to it's feet with a professionalism that only comes from years of entertaining in all parts of the world; and in front of millions of people from ages 1 to 100!
Humor, 50s costuming, period instruments, a pollished and well rehursed show and the authentic sound of Rock n' Roll will all transport your customers back to the origins of rock and will leave them with that satisfied "I cant wait to come back" feeling!
Providing a transition from the big band-harmony singers of the 1940s and the street-corner doo-wop groups of the 1950s, the Dell Vikings are best remembered for their single, "Come Go With Me," which became a major hit in 1957.
The members of the Dell Vikings first sang together informally while stationed at an Air Force base in Pittsburgh. Agreeing to work together as a band, the Dell Vikings recorded a demo tape in the basement of DJ Barry Kaye. Three months later, they recorded six tunes -- "Baby, Let Me Know," "True Love," "When I Come Home," "Don't Be a Fool," "Watching The Moon," and "Come Go With Me" -- in a makeshift recording studio set up at Pittsburgh's Sheraton Hotel.
Releasing their debut single, "True Love" b/w "Baby, Let Me Know," on the small, independent Fee-Bee label in late 1956, the Dell Vikings seemed on the threshold of stardom. Encouraged by local radio airplay, Fee-Bee reissued "True Love" in January 1957, with "Come Go With Me" replacing the original B-side.
As DJs flipped the single over and began playing "Come Go With Me," the song's popularity continued to grow. Within three weeks, Fee-Bee signed a national distribution deal with Dot. One week after being re-released in February, "Come Go With Me" appeared on the national charts.
The rest of 1957 and early-1958 was a whirlwind of activity. Recording a dozen songs in a studio in Ohio in March 1957, the group went on to perform during Alan Freed's Easter-week revue at the Paramount Theater in Brooklyn, NY. Problems arose shortly afterward when Mercury discovered that when the Dell Vikings had signed with Fee-Bee only one member was over the legal consent age of 21 and attempted to have the contract voided. After several months of intense fighting, Mercury, Dot, and Fee-Bee resolved their dispute with Fee-Bee retaining management of the group through December 1957 and Mercury securing rights to the group's name.

Three months later, they recorded six tunes -- "Baby, Let Me Know," "True Love," "When I Come Home," "Don't Be a Fool," "Watching The Moon," and "Come Go With Me" -- in a makeshift recording studio set up at Pittsburgh's Sheraton Hotel.</DIV> <DIV align=left>Releasing their debut single, "True Love" b/w "Baby, Let Me Know," on the small, independent Fee-Bee label in late 1956, the Dell Vikings seemed on the threshold of stardom. Encouraged by local radio airplay, Fee-Bee reissued "True
Love" in January 1957, with "Come Go With Me" replacing the original B-side. </DIV> <DIV align=left>As DJs flipped the single over and began playing "Come Go With Me," the song's popularity continued to grow. Within three weeks, Fee-Bee signed a national distribution deal with Dot. One week after being re-released in February, "Come Go With Me" appeared on the national charts.</DIV> <DIV align=left>The rest of 1957 and early-1958 was a whirlwind of activity. After several months of intense fighting, Mercury, Dot, and Fee-Bee resolved their dispute with Fee-Bee retaining management of the group through
 December 1957 and Mercury securing rights to the group's name.</DIV> <DIV align=left><B><FONT color=#990000>Advance discount tickets: $15.00<BR></FONT></B><B>Day of Show: $20.00</B></DIV> <DIV align=left><B><A href="http://www.ticketweb.com/user/?region=oh&query=schedule&venue=kentstage" target=new_window><IMG height=20 alt="Bill Haley's Comets and The Dell Vikings, Live in downtown Kent, Ohio" src="http://kentstage.org/ticketWeb.jpg" width=100 border=0></A></B></DIV> <DIV align=left> </DIV> <DIV align=left> </DIV></TD> <TD class=normal vAlign=top> <DIV align=center> <DIV><IMG height=225 src="http://kentstage.org/atthehop.jpg" width=179><BR><IMG height=171 alt="Bill Haley's Comets and The Dell Vikings, Live in downtown Kent, Ohio" src="http://kentstage.org/comets3.jpg" width=175 border=2><BR><IMG height=108 alt="Bill Haley's Comets and The Dell Vikings, Live in downtown Kent, Ohio" src="http://kentstage.org/comets2.jpg" width=175 border=2> </DIV>
