Karamu House and James Pickens, Jr. (Grey's Anatomy) Karamu Alumni, present
a 

world premier musical Otis Sallid's Gospel! Gospel! Gospel!  Hollywood and
Broadway veteran Otis Sallid's Gospel! Gospel! Gospel! is a foot-stomping,
hand-clapping, inspirational musical revue of gospel music. It follows
gospel's journey from slavery to gospel's Thomas Dorsey, and the music of
Clara Ward, Mahalia Jackson,  James Cleveland, Aretha Franklin, and others.
Otis Sallid's Gospel! Gospel! Gospel! has its world premier in Cleveland,
before starting a national tour! The show opens Friday, October 6th with a
gala reception following the performance costing $35.00

Karamu House and Cleveland State University co-sponsors an educational
conference    exploring various aspects of gospel music in conjunction with
Otis Sallid's Gospel! Gospel! Gospel!  on Saturday, October 7th from 9:00 am
to Noon at Antioch Baptist Church, 8869 Cedar Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio and
at Karamu House 2355 East 89th Street in the Jelliffe Theatre from 1:45 to
5:00 pm. This gospel event is made possible by an ACE grant from Cuyahoga
County Commissioners who recognize that art and culture are vital for
economic and community development.   Confirmed conference participants
include Dr. James Abbington, Associate Professor of Music and Worship, Emory
University, Atlanta, Georgia; Prof. David L. Moody, Department of
Telecommunications School of Communications Studies Bowling Green State
University who will present his paper on "Carnal Melodies in the Pews? The
Real Rap on Christian Hip Hop, Rap, and Contemporary Christian Music" and
Dr. Regennia N. Williams, Department of History, Cleveland State University.
The Gospel Conference including lunch cost is $35.00.  Persons from near and
far, are encouraged to join  in celebrating this gospel filled weekend.  

Otis Sallid's  Gospel! Gospel! Gospel! show cases some of Ohio's finest
singers as it presents gospel history through songs and visuals.  The
performance will make theatre-goers of every background feel as if they
could "Move On Up A Little Higher." Karamu House is the nation's oldest
African-American cultural arts institution and has been an important part of
the Cleveland community for over three quarters of a century. Feel at Home
in the House-Karamu House, 2355 East 89th Street.  Otis Sallid's  Gospel!
Gospel! Gospel! Runs from October 6 thru November 5th.

Preview nights are Wednesday and Thursday October 4th & 5th at 7:30pm;
ticket price for preview nights are $12.00 each.  

Performances are 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays and at 3:00
p.m. on Sundays.  Special Saturday 3:00 pm performances will be held on
Saturdays, October 14th, October 21st, October 28th and November 4th.
Tickets for these performances are $15.00.  Group, senior and student
discounts are available.
