To the best of our knowledge, Rachmaninoff's Vespers have never been
performed live in Cleveland - don't miss this opportunity to hear the great
complexity and rich harmonic structures of a piece that has been described
as "Rachmaninoff's gift to the world"

Cleveland Orchestra Chorus performs Rachmaninoff’s Vespers this Sunday -
March 25th at Severance Hall

Members of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus will perform Rachmaninoff’s
All-Night Vigil (“Vespers”), Op. 37, in a special concert at Severance Hall
on Sunday, March 25, at 3:00 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Cleveland
Orchestra Chorus Tour Fund. The concert will be conducted by Cleveland
Orchestra Director of Choruses Robert Porco. Soloists are Cleveland
Orchestra Chorus members Lucia Leszczuk, mezzo-soprano, and Matthew Rizer,
tenor. The Chorus will be joined by Ukrainian cantor Ihor Hnyda, who will
perform traditional Russian chant between movements of the Vespers.

A silent auction and raffle will be part of the event. Both
will take place in the Smith Lobby on the ground floor of Severance Hall
from 2:00-3:00 p.m. and for one half-hour following the performance.
Auction items include a gourmet dinner for eight prepared by Robert Porco,
gift certificates to many local restaurants and cultural venues, a week in a
vacation home in Hawaii, and a week in a vacation home in Colorado. The six
raffle packages are themed around specific countries and include bottles of
wine as well as tickets to Cleveland Orchestra, Opera Cleveland, and Great
Lakes Theater Festival performances. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 6 for
$25. They may be purchased at Severance Hall on the day of the performance.

The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, directed by Robert Porco, is one
of the few professionally-trained, all-volunteer choruses sponsored by a
major American orchestra. The Chorus celebrated its 50th anniversary during
the 2002-03 season. In addition to performing with The Cleveland Orchestra
in subscription concerts each season and in the Orchestra’s annual Christmas
concerts at Severance Hall, the Chorus has appeared with the Orchestra on
tours (both domestic and abroad), on television, in special concerts (such
as the 1994 opening of Jacobs Field and the 1996 Cleveland Bicentennial
concert in the Flats), and on numerous recordings. The Chorus has also
toured on its own, either a cappella or with other ensembles, to the Casals
Festival in San Juan, Puerto Rico; the Chautauqua Institution in New York;
and various venues in England, Wales, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg
and Germany.

Cleveland Orchestra Chorus members hail from nearly fifty area
communities, and some travel for weekly rehearsals from as far away as
Ashtabula, Wooster and Orrville. The 170 members donate over 50,000 hours
annually in rehearsal and performance time. Additionally, through a variety
of development efforts, they have raised over $1.3 million for past and
future touring.

TICKETS: Tickets for the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus benefit concert are
$100 (includes a special patron package that will include a copy of the
Cleveland Orchestra Chorus CD Gloria!), $40, $30, and $20. They are
available through the Severance Hall Ticket Office in person, by telephone,
