PLAYHOUSE SQUARE CANTEEN
Wyndham Playhouse Square - Cleveland, Ohio

American Veterans for Equal Rights, a prominent partner of www.SLDN.org and
www.HRC.org -- in the fight to lift the ban on open and honest service by
LGBT Americans, is having their 2007 national convention in Cleveland, Ohio.

Join with American Veterans for Equal Rights for two special nights.
----------------------------------

*7pm-10pm -- Friday 20 April 2007
WWII style Soda Fountain Ice Cream Social and Movie Night*
Featuring the Cleveland premiere of two brand new films.
-----------
"Courage Doesn't Ask" - written and directed by Joe Acton of Zaydoe films.
The short film about an amputee soldier / veteran of the war in Iraq,
starring Dan Butler (Frasier) and Robert A. Guthrie (Expiration Date)
The only agenda within the PLOT of this film is the story of a wounded
soldier. The twist in this film is that amongst the cast are 6 highly
decorated veterans: 5 gay combat veterans and 1 trans-veteran.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0970176/
>From http://www.zaydoefilms.com/ : "The U.S. Government has refused to
support Courage citing the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy against gays serving
in the military. ... Part of our cast includes actual gay veterans, which we
included in the movie to put a face on the issue. ... By ignoring a gay
storyline but identifying the actors as gay veterans, Courage Doesn't Ask
stands for the proposition that being gay in combat is as transparent as
being black, brown, white, Democrat, Republican. It just doesn't make a damn
bit of difference and shouldn't disqualify otherwise honorable service."

Joe Acton will be on-site with AVER for a post-screening Q&A session.

-----------
"Tell" - a feature length documentary by T.Joe Murray, director of Fish
Can't Fly (2005), and Farm Family: In Search of Gay Life in Rural America
(2004)
This documentary follows the personal stories of several LGBT veterans,
ranging from WWII to the present "War on Terror"

T.Joe Murray will also be on-site with AVER for a post-screening Q&A
session.

------------------------------------

*6pm-10pm Saturday 21 April 2007
"O-Club" style cocktail hour and Memorial Military Ball*
In memory of Todd Shinkle (Columbus, OH) and Wes Giles (San Antonio, TX)
Cocktail hour will feature live music by a collected LGBT band, including a
number of military veterans.

Veterans and service members: may wear Class A, Dress Blue, or Mess dress;
authorized per Memorial Uniform regulations
All others: formal attire or dress leather.

Keynote Speaker: gay WWII combat veteran Dr. Franklin Kameny, PhD.
Dr. Kameny is frequently noted for his decades of work, often with the late
Barbara Gittings, including having homosexuality removed from the APA's
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, overturning the ban on LGBT Americans for
federal employment, and overturning the ban on Federal Security Clearances
for LGBT Americans, amongst many other accomplishments. Dr. Kameny has
said, "Overturning the military gay ban is the only fight I have yet to
win. Yet!"
