WE PROMISE TO ANNOUNCE THE SCORE OF THE INDIANS GAME PERIODICALLY...
IF YOU COME TO HEAR THE WONDERFUL MUSIC OF
CANTUS
live on stage at Stocker Arts Center tomorrow night - Saturday, October
13, 2007 at 7:30pm

Cantus began in the fall of 1995 when a few college friends gathered on
the campus of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, to sing. Now
based out of Minneapolis, the group has gained recognition as one of
America's finest professional male vocal ensembles and enjoys a vigorous
schedule of national tours and recording. Cantus' repertoire spans many
periods and genres, including Gregorian chant, Renaissance motets,
contemporary works, art songs, folk music, spirituals, and pop. The
ensemble has commissioned several new works and much of their music is
composed and arranged by the members. Cantus has recorded ten CDs, eight
on its own label, Cantus Recordings, which are nationally distributed by
CollegiumUSA. A collection of African-American spirituals entitled "Deep
River" (2003), received a 10/10 rating from Classics Today for both
sound and artistry. Of the two previous recordings, "Let Your Voice Be
Heard" (2001), and "...against the dying of the light" (2002), American
Record Guide declared, "male chorus fans are in for rare and enchanting
treats here. Watch for this unique and charismatic group - It is just
the sort of un-stuffy and engaging ensemble this nation needs more of."
In 2004, the group released its first holiday album entitled "Comfort
and Joy: Volume One" to great acclaim. The Houston Chronicle said that a
"weekend visit by Minnesota-based Cantus was a forceful reminder that
professional male vocal ensembles are thriving," and that Cantus
produces "a robust sound inviting for its warmth, vigor and flexibility
with an obvious love for the music and their work."
