Heights Youth Theatre
presents

Fiddler on the Roof

directed by Nathaniel Motta

Fiddler on the Roof is the touching tale of Tevye, a poor milkman struggling with his family in czarist Russia at the dawn of the 20th century. The villagers of Anatevka are faced with escalating Anti-Semitism and spreading news of the pogroms of czar Nicholas II. Russian soldiers occupy their small, Jewish settlement and interrupt the village's peaceful way of life. In addition, Tevye is faced with the tough choice between the happiness of his daughters and the traditional practices of his faith when his three eldest daughters ask to be married without the use of a matchmaker. With such classic songs as "Tradition", "Matchmaker", "If I Were a Rich Man", and "Sunrise, Sunset" this production juxtaposes the uplifting spirit of the people of Anatevka with the mounting tension of the injustices that are to come. Above all, the audience is invited to spend a few hours inside the living, breathing village of Anatevka with Tevye,
a charming philosopher, father, and friend as their guide.
