ANNOUNCING THE WINNERS OF THE

2009, 1ST ANNUAL SCA PLAYWRITING COMPETION



Solon Center for the Arts is proud to announce the winners of the
*1stAnnual SCA Playwriting Competition
*. This competition was created in an effort to give new voice to the youth
of North East Ohio. The opportunity gave student’s grades 7 - 12 a chance to
submit their own short piece of drama based on the theme of *"Everyday
Adventures"*. These pieces, submitted in January, were then considered for
potential production in the spring of 2009. The SCA judges have selected a
first place, second place and third place winner in addition to an honorable
mention. The winners are as follows:



First Place: *Marv, Harv and **Ajax* by Luke Brett

Second Place: *Elevator Music* by Katrina Walker

Third Place: *Brain Farts* by Melanie Adelstein

Honorable Mention: *Shenandoah *by Andy J. Novak



The first, second and third place winners’ scripts will be presented in the
*SCA One Act Festival *directed by Mr. Larry Nehring on Friday, May 29, 2009
at 7:00 pm on SCA’s Patio. These short student written pieces will be
performed by the SCA Spotlight Youth Theater students (grades 5 – 8). A
small excerpt of the Honorable Mention winner’s work* *will also be
presented, as a reading, on that same evening.



The *SCA One Act Festival* is free and open to the public, but space is
limited so be sure to get to SCA early on May 29. Audience members are
encourages to bring their own blankets or chairs and seat themselves for
this outdoor event.
