Directed by Lee Breuer, with Maude Mitchell. Avant-garde theatre collective Mabou Mines' bold, biting re-imagining of A Doll's House turns Ibsen's bourgeois, feminist drama into high comedy. The "domineering" men are played by actors no more than 53 inches tall, while the "subservient" women are all around six feet. Though the acclaimed production's five-year, 30-city tour ended this spring, Mabou Mines DollHouse -along with its award-winning lead performance by Maude Mitchell-has been preserved on videotape and adapted for the screen by its Obie-winning creator and director Lee Breuer. Breuer and Mitchell will appear in person to answer audience questions after today's U.S. premiere screening of this movie that was made for French TV. In English. "Astonishing." -L'Humanité.
