. Robert “Ruby” Fox, Playwright –in – Residence, has written both drama and comedy which reflect his deep understanding of people, their foibles and triumphs.  Over the years, he has written such diverse pieces as Wednesdays with Hilda which addresses race relations and touches the heart with Jewish heritage an d, Sophie’s Legacy, which takes an improbable look at “creative pregnancy.”  Ruby is also co-author, along with Gary Webster and Sue Johnson of Harlem Blues, a play about four female African-American actors in Harlem, which sprung from his fertile imagination. Ruby also was part of the writing team for Webster’s My Big Fat Dysfunctional Office which was commissioned by the Ohio Education Association.   For the past 6 years, Ruby has been leading a writers’ group that meets at Borders Books, Severance Town Center in Cleveland Heights, OH.
Ruby has seen his original one-act plays, Wednesdays with Hilda20and Celibacy Odyssey performed at the Cleveland Play House.  He has been  featured twice  in the Cleveland Jewish News as an “elder” person and playwright of distinction.   The WAKE UP And LIVE s Actors’ Studio dedicated its 2005-06 season of “PlayActs” to Ruby.  In September, 2005, Ruby and Celibacy Odyssey  headed to the Big Apple, where Celibacy Odyssey, “a farcical fantasy romp,” was performed off-Broadway at the Studio Theatre. His plays have also been read at the Cleveland Play House, Cuyahoga Community College and Ensemble Theatre, Cleveland, Ohio.

. Gary Webster, Playwright – in – Residence, had “PlayActs” Performances, 2006-07 dedicated to him in recognition of his extraordinary writing contributions to WAKE UP And LIVE’s Actors’ Studio.  Gary has been working with WAKE UP And LIVE since 1998.  As a prolific sketch writer, he co-wrote Harlem Blues with Fox and Johnson, and was the head writer on My Big, Fat Dysfunctional Office, which was performed in Columbus, OH, before an appreciative group of members of the Ohio Education Association. His full-length play, Strictly Platonic?  premiered as a stage reading  in  “PlayActs” Performances,  2007.  More recently, Gary has penned the “TV Divas” ‘Sistahs and Their Mistahs’ and ‘The Divas Do Vegas’ series being performed in “PlayActs” Performances.
Gary has been writing plays since high school. The first he can remember was written in eleventh grade. It was titled "This Wasn't What I Had in Mind," and the topic was...surprise...relationships!  He followed that up with parodies of several Shakespearian plays.  Gary made his directorial debut with Saturday Confessions, A Priest’s Tale, which was performed at Cleveland Public Theater.  He’s been a member of Fox’s writing group for years. His playwright's training came via Bob Noll's class at the Cleveland Playhouse.   Gary is the morning announcer and operations manager at WBKC/AM-1460 in Painesville, in addition to being a performer, essayist, and director.   You can20find more of Webster’s work at www.keepwriting.net.
