Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
performed by the Royalton Players
 

 

Maggie the Cat, Brick the tortured son and the cigar chomping Big Daddy are making an their final appearance in North Royalton as the Royalton Players presents the Tennessee Williams classic "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," According to Director Chuck Poliafico, the play is the story of a Southern family in crisis, focusing on the turbulent relationship of a wife and husband, Maggie "The Cat" and Brick Pollitt, and their interaction with his family over the course of a weekend gathering. The gathering is at the family estate in Mississippi, ostensibly to celebrate the birthday of patriarch and tycoon "Big Daddy" Pollitt. 

 



"Maggie the Cat is one of those great literary Southern characters, similar to Scarlet O'Hara," said Poliafico, who is directing his 12th production for the Royalton Players. "Maggie begins the story vulnerable and insecure, but grows stronger with each scene." 

Tori MacNair, who was last seen as the ing nue in the Royalton Players production of "Out of Sight Out of Murder" portrays Maggie the Cat. 

 

Bryan R. Jalovec, who recently appeared in the Strongsville Community Theater production of "Children's Hour," will play Maggie's alcoholic husband, Brick. 

 

Big Daddy in the show is Gerry Wiess, who was last seen on stage as Kris Kringle in the Huntington Playhouse production of "Miracle on 34th Street." 

 

Mary Manos-Mitchem, who appeared in the Royalton Players productions "Out of Sight Out of Murder" and "Jake's Women," portrays Big Mama. 

 

Also in the production are Mike Yonkura, as the neglected and older brother Gooper; Kathy Vasko as Gooper's controlling wife, Mae; Tom Vasko as Doc Baugh; Willie Brown as Reverend Tooker; and Elisse Sheha as Lacey the servant. The children in the production are Jessica Grasso, Christine Bolton, Alex Bolton and Emma Mitchem. 

 

Assistant director is Nancy Marusek. In addition to portraying Reverend Tooker, Brown will also serve as stage manager for the production. Nancy Settle is production assistant and Alexis Mitchem is assistant stage manager. Technical director for the play is Jim Carrick. Several of the set pieces, including the balcony and doorway, were constructed by Joe Marusek. 

 

Performance dates are 8 p.m. May  22 and 23.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students. For reservations, contact the Royalton Players Box Office at (216) 556-0415. The theater is located in the Edwin S. Griffiths Masonic Lodge at 6320 Royalton Road, North Royalton, across from Arby's.
