"Blithe Spirit" Continues!

G. B. Community Theatre at the Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 West 13th Street in Ashtabula

will continue with two more weekends of the Noel Coward classic "Blithe Spirit."

Remaining performances will be held November 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, and 14.

Sponsored by KeyBank, "Blithe Spirit" is a tale of a pesky poltergeist that packs in plenty of fun. The story centers on the spectral reappearance of Elvira, the long-dead first wife of Charles, who is now happily remarried to Ruth. When Charles and Ruth plan an amusing evening seance with friends, they invite the eccentric Madame Arcati who brings Elvira back from the great beyond. Elvira is determined to wreak marital havoc and resume her rightful place in Charles' life.

One of Noel Coward's biggest successes, "Blithe Spirit" provides a feel-good evening in which audiences can sit back and relax, knowing they're seeing a truly funny play by one of America's best stage writers. Coward wrote "Blithe Spirit" during a stay at Portmeirion in 1941, after his London office and apartment had been destroyed in the Blitz. Feeling that the public would want something amusing and escapist during the dark days of the war, it took him only 7 days to write the hilarious script which proved a hit with the public. It was performed nearly 2000 times during it's first run. In 1954, Coward adapted the play to be filmed.

The production is directed by Linda Fundis of Austinburg. Appearing in the cast is Rita Werman as "Edith," Jeannie Jyurovat as "Ruth," Clay Nielsen as "Charles," Dennis Dixon as "Dr. Bradman," Valerie Compton as "Mrs. Bradman," Velleda Knox as "Madame Arcati" and Ellen Knox Dare as "Elvira."

Walk-in, day of the show, box office tickets to "Blithe Spirit" are Adults $12 and Senior/Student $11. However, you can save $2 per ticket when you purchase tickets in advance. For tickets or more information call the Ashtabula Arts Center at (440) 964-3396.
