World-Renowned Pianist Sarkis Baltaian to Perform Free Concert on February
20

The Chagrin Valley Chamber Music Concert Series will host world-renowned
pianist Sarkis Baltaian for a free chamber concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday,
February 20 at Valley Lutheran Church (87 East Orange Street, Chagrin
Falls). Dr. Baltaian will perform Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata No. 14;
Schumann's Symphonic Etudes, op. 13; Vladigerov's Improvisations, op. 36;
Brahms' Klavierstucke, op. 119; and Liszt's Vallee d'Oberman.

Dr. Baltaian has gained an international reputation as a concert pianist,
chamber musician, recording artist and pedagogue. He has been praised by
critics for his "beautiful tone and ability to project even the most
delicate pianissimos" and has been compared to George Gershwin and Oscar
Levant for his performance of Gershwin's Concerto in F. He made his Carnegie
Hall Debut in 1999 and has performed extensively as a recitalist and
concerto soloist with major orchestras throughout the United States, Europe,
Asia and Australia. He has been a top prize winner of various national and
international competitions and has been featured in live concerts and
interviews on NBC and NPR.

At four years old, Dr. Baltaian began studying piano at the Music High
School for gifted students in his native Bulgaria. He continued his
education at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles where he
received Bachelor, Masters, and Doctoral musical arts degrees under the
direction of renowned concert artist John Perry who describes Baltaian as "a
musical talent of genius quality."

A dedicated teacher, many of Dr. Baltaian's students have won national and
international competitions. He is a fierce advocate for music education for
youth and has served on the piano faculty at the Pan Pacific Music Festival
in Sydney Australia, Mammoth Lakes Music Festival in California and as a
chamber music coach for the Junior Chamber Music Series in Los Angeles. Past
posts also include teaching assistant to Professor John Perry at the
University of Southern California from 2002-06 and member of the piano
faculty at California State University Los Angeles from 2005-08. He
currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music at the University of
Alabama in Huntsville.

"Dr. Baltaian has been recognized as a genius pianist," notes Hristo Popov,
artistic director for the Concert Series. "We are beyond thrilled to
showcase a musician of his caliber as part of our free concert series."
