The 82nd Season is already full of exciting developments...

What a beginning! This year's /*Murder by the Falls*/ fundraiser event
broke attendance records, and our joint effort with The Chagrin Falls
Studio Orchestra, /*Spotlight on Broadway*/, introduced some needed
improvements in the Main Stage Auditorium sound system. The *updated
speakers and microphones* were made possible through the generosity of
Dr. and Mrs. Stuart Sears of Bentleyville (Mrs. Roberta Sears is a
former member of the CVLT Board of Directors), and the assistance of Bob
White Associates.

State Representative *Marlene Anielski* visited CVLT on September 19 to
attend a rehearsal of the Theatre's Accent on Youth (AOY) initiative.
Students presented excerpts from a play they plan to present to Chagrin
Falls Intermediate School students. AOY, sponsored by the Ridgecliff
Foundation, offers plays on social and relationship issues to six area
school systems using high school student actors to present topics
suggested by the schools.

The Theatre's *Annual Meeting* will be held Tuesday, October 18 at 7:30
p.m. in the River Room. One-half of the Board of Directors are up for
reelection and such other business matters as brought up by attendees
will be discussed. All donors and CVLT Board and committee members are
encouraged to attend. Included will be a discussion of accomplishments
during the past year and plans for the year ahead.

Finally, on a sadder note, the Theatre learned of the unexpected death
of *David E. Griffiths* in late September. Dave was a local attorney, a
strong civic leader, and a patron and friend of the Theatre. His support
of CVLT will be remembered.

Patrick Barlow's hilarious comedy, The 39 Steps, is based on Alfred
Hitchcock's famous 1935 film more-so than John Buchan's original 1915
spy novel. Where Buchan's story is a gripping thriller, and the
Hitchcock film adds humor and romance, Barlow created a spoof that uses
just five actors with lightning-fast costume changes to play heroes,
villains, men, women, children, and even the occasional inanimate
object. The Broadway production was the longest running play of the
2000s decade.

The story revolves around a debonair gentleman-adventurer, Richard
Hannay, who discovers that a foreign enemy spy ring is trying to smuggle
scientific-military secrets out of Britain. In classic derring-do style,
he sets out to stop them single-handedly while also being chased by the
police who, wrongly, of course, suspect him of murder!

Directed by David Malinowski

*Starring*
Starring Don Knepper & Matthew Mortensen

In Steven Dietz' /Lonely Planet/, Jody is an introvert who owns and
operates a map store in a rundown area of town. He is so fearful of the
outside world that he's become practically agoraphobic, seldom leaving
his store.

His far more outgoing friend Carl comes and goes regularly, and is
Jody's connection to the outside world. He brings tall tales about his
various professions, games, and entertainment. He also brings Jody a
taste of the outside world that he'd prefer not to acknowledge.

/Lonely Planet/ is an endearing, absurdly comical and poignant
friendship tale that examines two courses of thought: should we hide
ourselves away from the world and its imperfections or should we immerse
ourselves and hopefully make a difference?

The annual Halloween production of Ghosts, Goblins and Gobbledygook is
returning to Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's Main Stage on Saturday and
Sunday, Oct. 22 and 23! This show is intended for little ones ages 3-8.

Kids will watch as "Queenie" and the puppet "Mousie" will present a
fairy tale, our Youth Theatre will present short Halloween 'playlets',
"The Pocket Lady" will perform some audience participation fun, and
CVLT's own Edmond Wolff will play the guitar and sing Halloween songs.

Our usual villain "The Greedy Pumpkin" is back again to taunt the kids,
but "Wanda, the Good Witch" will be there to save the day. As always,
there will be a costume parade for kids on the stage (parents, bring
your cameras!), Halloween treats for everyone, and prizes from the
Pocket of "The Pocket Lady"!
