[NEohioPAL] AUDITION: "THE CHRISTMAS CAROL RAG" - Directed by George Roth

Please accept this invitation to audition for "The Carol Rag."

I have the privilege of directing the show, which will be presented over the
weekend of December 9, 10 and 11 by the Solon Center for the Arts. It's a
wonderful adaptation of Dickens' Christmas classic, and I invite you to
audition this Sunday from 1-3pm and Monday 7-9pm, if necessary.

We're going to have a lot of fun working on the show. Your grandmother's
"Christmas Carol" didn't include a Yiddish spouting Ghost of Christmas Past
or a Ghost of Christmas Present wailing out a roof-raising rendition of "Go
Tell It on the Mountain," but our show does. It's funny, it's moving, it's
filled with toe-tapping, hum-along songs from the turn of the century, and
it stars the brilliantly talented Adina Bloom as Mrs. Scrooge. That's
right, MRS. not Mr. Scrooge.

Don't think you're not right for the show. I need a wide variety of ages
and types (see the audition notice below), and almost everyone will be
doubling parts, so you'll be involved and challenged.

If you can't make the scheduled audition times, don't worry. Call me at
(216) 536-6373 and we'll work something out.

Solon Center for the Arts will be holding open auditions for "The Christmas
Carol Rag" by Normal Allen. This production, a delightful musical
re-imagination of Charles Dickens' classic holiday tale, will be performed
on December 9, 10 and 11, 2011.

The production will be directed by Cleveland actor, director and Solon
resident George Roth.

AUDITION APPOINTMENTS:
Sunday, October 9 (3:00 pm - 5:00 pm)
Monday, October 10 (7:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

the Arts located at 6351 SOM Center Road, Solon, OH 44139.

Auditions by appointment only. Appointments may be made by calling SCA (440)

AUDITION PREPARATION
Those auditioning should prepare a memorized one-minute theater song and a
memorized one-minute contemporary monologue. Performers are also expected to
bring sheet music in the appropriate key (an audition accompanist will be
provided by SCA), a headshot, a resume and be prepared to inform SCA of any
rehearsal conflicts. As you make your song choice, please keep in mind that
the score of "The Christmas Carol Rag" incorporates popular songs of the
early 19th century.

ABOUT THE PLAY
"The Christmas Carol Rag" is set in the early years of the 20th century in a
time of ragtime and sweatshops. Ebenezer Scrooge is gone, replaced by Evelyn
Scrooge, who runs her sweatshop with an iron fist. She finds redemption
after being visited by a Yiddish-spouting Ghost of Christmas Past and a
gospel-wailing Ghost of Christmas Present. The score, which includes work by
Victor Herbert and George M. Cohan, brings the age old Christmas story to
life with rousing production numbers set to familiar songs - from "Hello, My
Baby" to "The Streets of New York." Wildly funny and deeply moving, "The
Christmas Carol Rag" brings a new twist to an old chestnut.
