*THE GREAT GOD BROWN*

directed by James Slowiak

Nov 3rd - 12th

(Akron, OH)— The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts
Administration presents *The Great God Brown**, *written in 1926 by Eugene
O’Neill. One of his most mystical and expressionistic works, *The Great God
Brown* draws inspiration from Jungian psychology, Nietzschean philosophy,
Greek myth, and Asian and Christian religious sources, creating a world in
which the denial of one’s true self can lead to devastating consequences.
The production incorporates a number of stylistic devices, including masks,
puppets, musicians, and a formalized, physicalized approach to acting,
loosely based on Asian theatre techniques. University of Akron’s Professor
of Theatre Arts, James Slowiak directs the play, which runs November 3
through November 12 at Sandefur Theatre in Guzzetta Hall on The University
of Akron campus.

*The Great God Brown** *is the second part of *The Dionysos
Project*, a three year exploration of the Dionysos myth in performance.
There will be pre-show discussions held on Friday, November 4 and Friday,
November 11 at 7:15pm in Room 299 in Guzzetta Hall. Last year’s production
of *A Mouthful of Birds**, *was the first play in the series and received
excellent reviews.
