“Before The Birdcage, there was La Cage!” That tag line is posted all over downtown. Which reminded me that while most of us are familiar with the film “The Birdcage,” starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, most of us don’t know that La Cage has had a very long life. The original 1973 play, a 1978 film, the 1983 Broadway musical (written by Harvey Fierstein,) the 1996 movie (based on the 1978 film), the musical’s London revival, a 2004 Broadway revival, a 2008 London revival, a 2010 Broadway revival (winner of three Tony Awards®) and now the first National Tour has arrived in Cleveland! With it comes legendary stage and screen actor George Hamilton as Georges and two time Tony Award® nominated Broadway actor Christopher Sieber as Albin.
