*'DANCING WITH NED'* - Written and Directed by:Tyler Whidden.
Dancing With N.E.D. is a bold, darkly comic, two-person play about the
unlikely friendship that develops between an acerbic, alcoholic, irreverent
55-year-old woman who’s dying of cancer and the young man she hires to help
her plan her final days.

*CLAIRE*, 55: In the past 7 years, Claire has lost her son, been diagnosed
with cancer (twice), ruined her marriage and alienated her friends and
family. Now she spends her days drinking and hallucinating dates with dead
men. She's quick-witted, intelligent, and possibly macabre. Also, she's
very lonely.
*PETER*, mid-20's-mid-30's: Peter was hired by Claire, 4 weeks ago under
the pretense of, "dying old broad needs help finding a funeral home."
They've been "dancing" together for a month, so Peter is well onto all of
Claire's games. Though, he has his own secrets and reasons for being there.

*"GROUNDS FOR DISMISSAL"* by Cindy Dettelbach. Directed by Celeste
Cosentino
It's the early 60's, an idyllic time to be a co-ed on the campus of a
prestigious east coast college. For roomates Sally and Nan, ambition,
creativity, and a professional tryst signal the end of innocence.

*SALLY:* University senior planning to teach middle school or high school
(20's)
*NAN*: Sally’s college roommate (18-22)
*DR. BRAD OLIN: *Student teacher supervisor on university staff (35-45)
*BETSY:* Sally’s fictional student (8-10)

*DESTROYING THE LIGHT*- by Sasha Thackaberry. Directed by Peter Voinovich.

"Destroying the Light" is a modern reinvention of the myth of Persephone, a
dark tale that explores Kora's deeply personal fall to hell and her journey
back from the brink. In a desperate attempt to wrest control of her life
from her mother, Kora is seduced into a world of drugs and excess by a
rockstar with a fake British accent. A chorus of punk-rock witches
gleefully accompany her on her primrose path to oblivion.

*KORA, 27:* A graduate student in choreography, she has a delayed onset
of adulthood due to being a perpetual student. She has a conflicted
relationship with her parents, and struggles with who she wants to become
and what she wants to do. She's a clever girl who knows it and banks on it
to get what she wants. She's bipolar and an alcoholic, and even though
she's tortured, she's become accustomed to it to the point of enjoyment.
*RITA, mid 50's,* KORA's mother. Divorced from KORA's father, ZACH. She has
made her life's work raising her daughter, but now that her daughter is an
adult, she finds herself in the precarious position of losing Kora if she's
capable, but keeping her close if she's a mess. Once her daughter is in
trouble, she attacks the project of getting her back. A shrewd and
successful former businesswoman, she built the talent agency with ZACH that
he now runs.
*ZACH, 50's, 60's: * KORA's father and RITA's ex-wife. A bit of a player.
A sixty-year old who's still pretending to be 40. He has to work hard to
make up for a relative lack of strategy at running the firm. Keeps up with
all the latest fads and technology but is painfully aware that this is not
quite fully believable to his clients, who tolerate him because he is
friendly, easy to work with, and deadly at getting great contracts for his
clients. The boat has sailed on him being a competent parent. His
strength as a father would have been mediating Rita and Kora's
relationship, and he knows he was missing, and he knows he failed. He's
trying to reconstruct whatever relationship he could have with Kora, but
he's out of practice, and he doesn't have the time to commit to it anyways.

*HAVIER 30's.* A rockstar known for bad behavior. He is charming and well
intentioned. Indulges in all that comes with the rockstar lifestyle.
Drinks heavily, brilliant musically, attractive to women but ignores
groupies. He's actually a good guy who's just never asked to be a good man.
*ABIGAIL/CHORUS 1*. Kora's best friend. Both her compatriot and her
conscience, as well as her enabler. Also part of the chorus.
*CHORUS 2 & 3.* Two young-ish women outfitted as punk hipsters, they
function in place of a traditional CHORUS. They foreshadow and have a
witches-from-Macbeth vibe. They also play the occasional characters –
background people in the bar, random patients in rehab, etc.

*PLEASE EMAIL US at info at ensemble-theatre.org if you are planning on
auditioning. No need to make appointments, but so that we know who is
attending. Auditions will be readings from the scripts. Please email
and/or bring a headshot and resume with you. Feel free to call or email us
at the theatre if you have any questions and we look forward to seeing you
on TUESDAY!*
