*FREUD’S LAST SESSION* is set in the London study of Sigmund Freud, one of
the seminal figures of the 20th century. Freud has been in London for a
little over a year, having fled the Nazi persecution. On the day that
Great Britain enters the Second World War, C. S. Lewis, a young Oxford
professor, visits at Freud’s invitation. Freud, a lifelong atheist has
invited Lewis to chat about Lewis’ recent conversion to Christianity from
atheism. Although religion is the starting point of the discussion, it
soon expands to include the nature of humor, sexual mores, and death.
Freud is approaching the end of his life, which may or may not have
prompted him to invite Lewis to his home. Lewis is still early in his
career with *The Chronicles of Narnia *and* The Screwtape Letters* yet to
be written.
