The MetroHealth Songwriting Contest is On
Winner takes home $2,500

A week ago, MetroHealth Medical Center asked Northeast Ohio musicians if they would enter a contest to see who could write and perform the best song about the west-side hospital.
Dozens of them said yes.
So the contest is a go.
The health care system will give $2,500 to whoever comes up with the best, original unpublished song about MetroHealth as it kicks off plans to transform its campus and the West 25th Street neighborhood around it.
Finalists, chosen by a panel of judges, must agree to perform at a family-friendly, outdoor music festival at MetroHealth on the afternoon of Saturday September 13. Each finalist would be given 30 minutes to perform a short set that will include their MetroHealth song. In exchange for the prize money, MetroHealth will have rights to the song and work with the winner on possible future performances.
Sound engineering, stage, drum kit, microphones, amps, an MC, tents (should it rain) and assistance setting up and tearing down between performers will be provided.
Those who enter must send a representative to a meeting at the hospital’s main campus -- 2500 MetroHealth Drive, Cleveland, OH, 44109 -- to hear the rules, learn what makes the hospital a vital part of Cleveland and receive written material that will help inform their lyrics. That meeting, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, July 15, will include a brief tour of the hospital’s Life Flight helipad and other locations.
Deadline to enter the contest will be midnight Aug. 14. Videos – smartphone videos are fine – will be your entry. We’ll provide details on where to send/upload those at the July 15 meeting.
