*Call for Artists– ArtWorks Afterschool Spring 2015The Center for
Arts-Inspired Learning seeks applications for teaching artists who wish to
participate in the spring afterschool 2015 ArtWorks program.*

ArtWorks is the only multi-disciplinary arts-based job training program for
Northeast Ohio high school students that is designed to provide instruction
in the arts while helping teens develop workplace skills and gain knowledge
in post-secondary options.  Through ArtWorks, teens create visual and
performing art, learn how to work cooperatively, professionally, and
responsibly while earning a wage. Selected artists will work with diverse
populations of young people with a broad range of artistic experience, to
perform and exhibit works of art, develop community partnerships to provide
real-world project experiences, and guide apprentices in the development of
a professional portfolio. *Resumes and cover letters from artists of all
disciplines will be considered, including but not limited to: theater,
music and/or vocal performance, dance, filmmaking, recording arts, video
game/web design, visual arts (all forms), architecture/design, culinary
arts, poetry/literary arts and fashion/costume design.*

*WHERE & WHEN WILL ARTWORKS TAKE PLACE?*
ArtWorks will take place, indoors at the Tri-C Metro Campus; January
27-April 23, Tuesday and Thursday, 4:30-7:30 PM, some Saturdays and
evenings are required for special events.   ArtWorks teaching artists are
required to work pre-program (December-January) events for interviews and
registration of apprentices as well as orientation and planning.

*WHAT IS THE ROLE OF TEACHING ARTISTS?*
Teaching artists will:
1.) Complete initial proposals, weekly work-plans, and participate in
planning sessions to create arts-based job-training curriculum to reflect
the outcomes of the program including workforce skills, artistic/personal
development and post-secondary preparedness.
2.) Create a project that allows apprentices to develop 21st Century skills
such as critical thinking, problem solving, time management, professional
communication, or collaboration.
3.) Guide apprentices to document work and create professional portfolios
and resumes.
4.) Conduct and complete assessments, evaluations, and interviews of
apprentices.
5.) Mentor apprentices, create a supportive environment for collaboration
and development of a diverse peer network.
6.) Plan and implement a culminating exhibit or performance with entire
site in addition to other public performances.
7.) Keep apprentices engaged, focused and productive during workday


*HOW TO APPLY:*
*Prospective ArtWorks teaching artists must submit:*
1. Current resume or CV

2. personal work samples, photos or other documentation

3. Letter of intent/cover letter

Please note: In order for the Center for Arts-Inspired Learning to
adequately evaluate a teaching artist for consideration, all requested
materials and information must be received prior to the deadline. An
interview, written project proposal and professional references will be
required for finalists.  Background checks are required and must be
completed at the applicant’s expense prior to final acceptance as an
ArtWorks teaching artist.   After acceptance, all artists will meet with
ArtWorks staff to discuss a program theme, determine logistic and budget
needs, and develop appropriate project plans. Application materials must be
received no later than 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 12, 2014.

ArtWorks teaching artist applicants are evaluated according to the criteria
below, based upon the needs of the program.

*Teaching Artist Qualifications*
•     Experience and ability to work collaboratively with professional
staff, fellow artists and youth.
•     Demonstrated work ethic and professionalism to serve as a mentor and
role model.
•     Previous experience teaching and/or working with diverse populations
of youth ages 14-18.
•     Professional artistic training, background, and work demonstrated
through work samples, photos or other documentation.
•     Ability to organize, implement and successfully complete projects in
a learning and work environment.
