  Spotlights Theater Presentsits Annual Coffee House ShowDURANG/DURANG -- an Eveningof One-Acts
The Broadview Heights Spotlights Community Theaterbegins its 2016 season with the Annual Coffeehouse Show featuring Durang/Durang, six one-act plays byrenowned American playwright, Christopher Durang.  The show runs February 5 through the 13.  Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performancesbegin at 7:30PM; a Sunday matinee on February 7 begins at 3:00PM.  All shows will be at the Broadview Heights Cultural Arts Building, 9543Broadview Road in Broadview Heights (next to the police station).
With a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard College and a Masters of Fine Arts inPlaywriting from Yale University, Christopher Durang is best known for writingoutrageous and often absurd comedies. His 2013 play, Vanya and Sonia andMasha and Spike won a Tony for Best Play.  His other well-known works include Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You,The Actor’s Nightmare, and Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge.  
The Spotlights production will present six of Durang’s shorter works, beginningwith Mrs. Sorken, an introduction tothe history and origin of theater, given by the title character who hasmisplaced her notes. Next comes two theater satires: For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls (a parody of The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams) and A Stye of the Eye, a play exposing the overuse of symbolism inAmerican theater.  The second half beginswith Nina in the Morning, providing a glimpse into the life of an extremelywealthy and narcissistic woman. In Wanda’sVisit, a married couple recount the reintroduction of an eccentric formergirlfriend.  The final play, Business Lunch at the Russian Tea Room,tells the story of a playwright being persuaded to adapt to Hollywood.  
The Spotlights’ Coffeehouse Show includes a complimentary beverage bar(non-alcoholic) before the show and during an extended intermission, whenluscious desserts are available for purchase. Dessert and beverage sponsorsinclude Caruso's Coffee, Michael Angelo's Bakery, and Creekside Café. The Spotlights’ show is directed by Tim Anderson, stage managed byJason Nehal, and produced by Amy McSweeney. The cast includes Stewart Blackwood, Adam Bowers, Tara Corkery, ElaineGritti, Dylan Grosh-Hoy, Greg Mandryk, Jaclyn Phelps, Daryl Kelley, and SallySpitz. 
Tickets are $13 for adults and $12 for seniors and students.  The playscontain adult themes and language.   Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.broadview-heights-spotlights.org.
