[NEohioPAL] Performer Scam Warning

Greetings!
 
Just wanted to warn all of you about a scam going on. 
 
I received an e-mail three weeks ago from someone claiming to be Kate Bailey (nailtek2006 at yahoo.com). (She?) was interested in booking us for a birthday party show, at her home in Philadelphia, PA. She claimed to have found us through (www.faires.com), the directory of renaissance festivals and performers. I worked up and sent a contract, via e-mail, as she was currently in South Carolina. 
 
This morning, I received via FedEx, the deposit check, written from a Minnesota based construction company, mailed from California, for a show in Philadelphia, from a woman in South Carolina. Oh...the check was written in the amount of $3,130.00...nice, but not likely! I notified the police, the construction company and the credit union that the check was written through. Sure enough, it was a scam. Do they really think that performers are idiots? Performers beware!
