About Full Circle Storytelling: Open to the public, Full Circle Storytelling events revolve around a theme and the idea: everyone has a story. Sign up to tell a true story related to the evening’s theme or just come to enjoy the show! (No experience necessary.) Stories can range anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes in length. Co-hosted by Wandering Aesthetics and The Akronist, this intimate evening of storytelling will conjure the spirit of community. While we understand the impossibility of our chosen task, our goal is to give a platform and voice to every Akronite. We recognize that the diversity of experiences within Akron is the thread that weaves the vibrant tapestry of our history and our future. We are creating a video and audio archive of stories from residents of the Greater Akron area. The show has been seen internationally for two decades and over four thousand performances. After the events of September 11, 2001, John spent a large portion of every year entertaining the armed forces on six USO tours. These tours traveled to sixteen countries including the most remote regions of Afghanistan and Iraq. In March of 2006, while in Fallujah, Iraq, Hack and Slash performed their one hundredth show for the USO.As an instructor for the International Order of the Sword and Pen (I.O.S.P.), John is considered a top stage combat professional around the globe. We make learning how to partner dance FUN! Learn the easiest form of partnered dancing – The Jitterbug! Also known as East Coast Swing or just Swing. We will dance to a variety of styles of music including big band swing, early rock & roll, blues and R & B! You will learn the basic footwork patterns and how to lead and follow a fun mix of spins and turns in open and closed position. Learning to swing dance is a great way to meet people and get some exercise too! You do NOT need a partner to take this class however, there is a discounted rate for people who sign up as a couple with one person assuming the role of leader and the other person assuming the role of follower. We rotate partners during the class so you will have the chance to dance with all of the other students and the teachers as well. However, if you prefer not to rotate that is permitted as well. You are that guy who enjoys singing, but for some reason, you just haven't made the decision to join the North Coast Men's Chorus and sing with us on stage. Now is the time to change all of that! We are holding auditions and first rehearsal for our exciting 28th season on Sunday, September 13 at 6:00 p.m. These auditions are for our holiday concert on December 5 & 6 at the Hanna Theatre at Playhouse Square! If you can't make that date (but really try because we have treats the first night!), additional audition dates are September 20 and 27. NCMC AUDITIONS SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 20, & 27 AT 6:00 CHURCH OF THE ASCENSION 13216 DETROIT AVENUE, LAKEWOOD What do you need to be a member of NCMC? It's really pretty simple. We are looking for men who have a passion for singing, some level of musicality, a good voice, movement skills (Do you know what jazz hands are?), openness, teamwork and a positive attitude, and a commitment to our mission of presenting high quality musical entertainment for diverse audiences; promoting a positive influence within and beyond the gay community; and providing a supportive environment for its members and participants. Whatever your skills, all we ask is that you embrace singing in all styles. And, you don't have to be gay, just an ally. THE "AUDITION PROCESS" So, what do you need to prepare for your audition? Nothing really. You'll meet with Rich Cole, Artistic Director, and he will have you sing some scales, match some pitches and determine what section of the chorus your voice is best suited for. It is a pretty painless process and you'll be on your way to performing on-stage with the Chorus! REHEARSALS We have rehearsals every Sunday evening from 7:00 - 9:30 at Church of the Ascension, 13216 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood. Singers are expected to arrive by 6:45 pm to greet their friends and settle in so rehearsal can begin on time. As we get closer to the concert, rehearsals will start a little earlier at 6:30. The Chorus also holds a "mini-retreat" on a Saturday during each concert preparation period. These are scheduled months in advance, and the dates can always be found on the Members' website calendar. Production Week rehearsals are also required, and attendance is expected at dress rehearsals and tech rehearsals. Additional rehearsals are required of the dancers, but they all say that extra time is more fun than work! ATTENDANCE Attendance is expected at all rehearsals, but we realize that everyone has a busy life. When absences are necessary, it is expected members will contact their Section Leader (in advance where possible) to report their absence. MEMBERSHIP DUES AND OTHER EXPENSES Membership dues are an important part of the Chorus budget. Dues are $150 for the season, or just $125 if you pay dues for the whole season by November 1. While we rely on membership dues to help pay our bills, we do not want to exclude talented, dedicated singers because of inability to pay dues. Please communicate with our Treasurer or Business Manager if finances are an issue. Payment plans are available and no one will be turned away because of inability to pay. Members are responsible for acquiring their own basic black tuxedo, shirt, cummerbund and bow tie. Occasionally there might be an additional fee for a shirt or accessory rental. TELL ME MORE! Well, I am not so sure that is what you will get as either an audience member or an actor. I like to think that this group of theatre artists, including Sondheim and Lapine, think outside the box and look at things a bit differently. We look at this musical play not just to do it differently, but rather to take a look at an old friend and see how much WE have changed. *Audition Information: * *Auditions will be held on October 25 and 26 between 7pm and 10pm at Lakeland Community College in Building D. **Please prepare TWO contrasting Sondheim pieces, each16-32 bars long. Jordan Cooper, the musical director, will choose one of the songs for you to sing. **You need only come to one of the audition dates. YOU DO NOT NEED AN AUDITION TIME. *Youth Ensemble Audition* September 14, 2015 6-8pm at the Music Settlement Ages 12 through 12th grade* of all levels of experience who desire to be part of the Inlet Youth Ensemble. YOU MUST REGISTER with the Music Settlement PRIOR to the Audition. The Inlet Youth Ensemble is a pre-professional performance group that is open to youth ages 12 through 12th grade* of all levels of experience. Admittance into the Inlet Youth Ensemble is by audition. Members are required to attend both Monday and Thursday's Teen/Adult Modern Dance classes and Youth Ensemble classes. Training will focus on Hawkins-based Release Technique, nontraditional partnering, performance improvisation, and choreography. Youth Ensemble members will increase their technical proficiency and dance literacy levels, learn rudiments of dance composition and performance improvisation, and have opportunities to view and critique dance performance. Members will also have chances throughout the year to perform in concerts and/or special events. Members are required to sign up for the full year.
