Scenic Designer & Carpenter Lutheran West (Rocky River, OH) is seeking a Scenic Designer & Carpenter for the 2026-2027 high school theater season: fall play (November 13th-15th) spring musical (March 18th-21st). Qualified applicants should possess experience in scenic design and construction, strong organizational skills and leadership skills, and the ability to fulfill the responsibilities outlined below. Interested candidates should submit a resume & portfolio to Caroline Pangrace, Drama Program Producer, at cpangrace(a)lutheranwest.com. Position Responsibilities The Scenic Designer & Carpenter will: - Collaborate with the director to develop and execute the overall scenic design, visual concept, and stage environment for each production. This begins upon hiring. - Work with the director to establish construction timelines, build schedules and production deadlines. The expected construction and painting timeline is as follows: - Fall play - Construction and painting - September 8th - October 30th - Tech Weeks - October 31st - November 12th (including November 8th) - Spring musical - Construction and painting - January 4th - March 5th - Tech Weeks - March 6th -17th (including March 14th) - Source all needed materials, following a budget determined by the producer. - Lead the safe construction, installation, and maintenance of all scenic elements during build sessions on weekday afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays. - Maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment throughout the build process. - Supervise and mentor student members and adult volunteers of the construction and paint crews, providing instruction and guidance as needed. - Lead the strike, storage, and organization of scenic elements following each production. - Perform all duties in a manner that supports and reflects the mission and values of Lutheran West. Required Qualifications - Ability to work comfortably at heights of up to 15 feet and lift/carry up to 50 lbs. - Demonstrated knowledge of standard scenic construction methods, materials, and techniques. - Proficiency in the safe operation of common hand and power tools. - Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines. - Flexibility to work weekday afternoons and evenings, Saturdays, and occasional late-night production hours as required. - Successful completion of FBI and BCI fingerprinting and background checks. Accountability The Scenic Designer & Carpenter will report directly to the Director and Drama Program Producer and is expected to maintain consistent communication regarding project progress, scheduling, and production needs. Pierre is in love with a strong-willed French girl Margot who longs for romance and adventure, but not knowing his masked identity, thinks Pierre is a weakling. All ends happily in this sweeping, song-filled spectacle. The most popular American light opera of all time, Sigmund Romberg’s immortal score contains such hits as the romantic *“One Alone,”* the stirring male chorus *“The Riff Song,”* and of course the unforgettable duet *“The Desert Song.”* *The New York Evening World* raved, “*The Desert Song *is a big, red-blooded, romantic musical treat.” *The Desert Song* was last seen in Akron in 1951 produced by the Goodyear Operetta Society. Race: Caucasian, or Caucasian-appearingRole: Warm and funny mother, French Resistance member. Must speak at least a little French or another romance language that can help pick up French quickly. We have the character's entire dialog recorded in both slow and regular-paced French. We a full-time French teacher ready to go for running the script, delivery, accent, pronunciation, etc. as needed. Additionally, a French teacher can be present on location. Location: Willard, OH. Hello All, *Many of you may know Beks Roen from their time in Cleveland, working with Great Lakes Theatre, and having other adventures, in Northeast Ohio** “Beks Roen (they/he) helps queer folks and allies find *adventurous connection* & remember they're *loved and not alone* through queer theatre & Shakespeare” (from their website, more information here <https://beksroen.org/about> ) I am excited to announce I am helping them obtain funding from the LGBTQ+ Opportunity Fund <https://www.clevelandfoundation.org/philanthropy-giving/ways-to-give/affini…> to return to Northeast Ohio in 2027. We are in the early stages of planning. Friday, September 18th & Saturday, September 19th at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20th at 2:00 p.m. At the Western Reserve Playhouse, 3326 Everett Rd, Richfield, OH 44286 Rehearsals: Rehearsals will begin early August and typically run Tuesday through Friday, 6-10pm and Saturday/Sunday based on cast availability.
