The Dark Room is an ongoing event held on the second Tuesday of each month. The Dark Room affords emerging and veteran playwrights the space and resources to develop new works. Beck Center For The Arts Paints A Picture With Andy Warhol In Iran Lakewood, OH-Beck Center for the Arts<http://www.beckcenter.org/> is pleased to produce the timely theater piece Andy Warhol in Iran.<https://www.beckcenter.org/shows/andy-warhol-in-iran> Andy Warhol, having become a portrait painter of the rich and famous, travels to Tehran when commissioned to take polaroids of the Shah's wife. Warhol meets a young revolutionary who throws his plans into chaos and opens the pop icon's eyes. This fictionalized portrait on this famous visit leaves the audience asking, "who was the artist and who was the revolutionary?" Written by Brent Askari, Andy Warhol in Iran is directed by local legend Sarah May. Running in the Studio Theater from October 3 through November 2, 2025, this play is presented in arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide. "Andy Warhol in Iran will resonate for anyone who cares about history. Or the present. Or the future." The Chicago Sun-Times Director Sarah May shared, "I am thrilled to bring this wonderful play to life at Beck Center! Persian American playwright Brent Askari has written a 'feel good' play for our troubled times. Stow Players Fall Writing Workshop

Stow Players is pleased to present a fall writing workshop "Anyone Can Be a Playwright: Tell YOUR Story". This class is free and presented in partnership with ArtsNow in Summit County (https://artsnow.org/) This class is taught by local playwright and Stow resident, Brandi Eaton. She is an actor, director, and internationally published and award-winning playwright. Her writing credits include Matt’s First (Real) Thanksgiving - a full-length play that has been performed multiple times around NE Ohio. Brandi is the current director of the cast of Murder in the Mansion, an interactive Murder Mystery that takes place yearly at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens in Akron. This course will explore taking characters and situations based on personal experiences and the diversity of environment and culture to allow for artistic expression and communication of a variety of backgrounds and viewpoints. 6 Saturdays of Classes November 1 through December 6 with a final production/staged reading on December 13. Department of Dance Presents Fall 2025 Faculty & Guest Artist Concert: Landmarks Case Western Reserve University’s Department of Dance announces the 2025 production of Landmarks, an evening of exciting new and revisited works. The program features Mark Morris’s Words, Karen Potter’s The Burghers of Calais, Gary Galbraith’s Chambers of Painted Light, and Game of …, a new duet by Yidi Lin and Richard Oaxaca. Morris and Potter’s works feature music performed by pianist Karin Tooley and cellist Joe Teeter both graduates of the Cleveland Institute of Music. Landmarks will be performed on October 31 and November 1, 6–8 at 7:30 pm, and November 2 at 2:30 pm at Mather Dance Center, 11040 Bellflower Road, on the Case Western Reserve campus in University Circle. Words Mark Morris’s Words (2014), staged by Karlie Budge of the Mark Morris Dance Group and a CWRU alumna, is set to selections from Felix Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words. The work is a study of musicality, pattern, and connection, showcasing Morris’s distinctive blend of clarity and wit. Dancers move through shifting formations and partnering that highlight the score’s structure, while a curtain carried across the stage creates playful and surprising entrances and exits. The Burghers of Calais The Burghers of Calais was inspired by the Auguste Rodin sculpture of the same name and though in Rodin's sculpture, there are six figures, the dance was originally created as a solo in 1998 and then enlarged to a trio in 1999. Choreographer Karen Potter visited the Rodin museum in Paris to study each singular sculpture that lines a walkway at the museum and conducted research about the siege of the City of Calais, France that itself initially inspired Rodin to create the sculpture. The costumes were designed by Potter and constructed by Jeffrey Wirsing and Potter. Chambers of Painted Light Gary Galbraith’s four-sectioned work "Chambers of Painted Light" is an extension of "In Another Place and Time" which he created in 2023. Galbraith, who the Cleveland Plain Dealer has called “..an innovator in dance and technology”, created this abstract work, a visually stunning landscape of beautiful light created by immersive projection design enhanced by multi-channel audio. This abstract dance leads the viewer through a multitude of visually radiant scenes all reflecting the intimacy of body/movement with environment. AI-supported LiDAR and motion tracking technologies are used to follow dancers in real-time so that their movements and locations are used to control this immersive dance environment. Galbraith has used this state-of-the-art approach in other recent works and is a leader in this multi-technology infusion with dance. Game of … Game of …, a new work co-choreographed and performed by faculty members Yidi Lin and Richard Oaxaca is a dynamic interplay of partnership and rivalry. Every step is a negotiation with moments of power struggle. Partnering turns into tactical maneuvering, and every touch is both an obstacle and an opportunity. The choreography weaves together moments of intense confrontation with fleeting alliances, as each dancer adapts, anticipates, and counters the other's strategy. Hi, All, Thanks to everyone who attended the Silver Lining Players performance of The Night I Died at the Palace Theatre at Makeshift Theater at Coach House. Every crowd was great and most nights were sold out! Now it's on to the next production. Makeshift Theater and Silver Lining Players present Adventures with Sherlock, a Readers' Theater adaptation of two of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic Sherlock Holmes stories, The Adventure of the Speckled Band and the Adventure of the Second Stain adapted from the original stories by Bud Graske. Creative Arts Therapies Department Music Therapist Part Time Hourly (15-20 hours weekly with growth potential) Reports to: Associate Director of Creative Arts Therapies Start Date: Immediately Position Summary: Functioning as a member of the Creative Arts Therapies team, music therapists (MT) serve individuals of all ages with and without various disabilities. Assignments include placement in agencies throughout Northeast Ohio region as well as group music therapy sessions, group music programming, and/or adapted programming at Beck Center for the Arts. *Current position is primarily working with early childhood music groups (infant-age 5), special education classrooms (middle school), and adults with developmental disabilities.* Responsibilities: * MT's primary responsibility includes the design and implementation of early childhood music enrichment programs (infant-age 5) both in the community and at Beck Center. * MT will design and implement music therapy programming in special education classrooms in local school district. * MT will lead unison choir(s) of adults with developmental disabilities in community. * MT will also be a part of various one-time community arts programs with grades K-5. * MT may also lead adapted and community arts programs as assigned by the Associate Director of Creative Arts Therapies. * Additional music therapy contracts in the community as they become available. Qualifications: * Bachelor degree in Music Therapy * Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) through the Certification Board for Music Therapists, or Board Eligible with immediate plans to take the certification exam. * Licensed Professional Music Therapist (LPMT) through the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. * Reliable transportation both to Beck Center and to various contracts in the community * 1-2 years' experience as a music therapist in a community based program preferred. * A self-motivated individual with experience and desire to move the music therapy program forward by assisting the Associate Director in increasing participation and community awareness. * Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook preferred. * Excellent organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines. * Flexibility, creativity, and dedication to serving the needs of program participants * Flexibility of schedule (to be discussed at time of interview). These two plays share exchanges of dialog directly to the audience and then to onstage characters. The telling illuminates time, place, societal concerns and the personal struggles with a quizzical reflection of worldviews. The former concerns Saskatchewan family life on the prairie and the conflicts of a young girl in love with an indigenous native Canadian. The latter addresses middle-aged commuter suburban life and the couple's youthful scavenger relationship with tangible bric-a-brac.
