Solon Center for the Arts is accepting applications for a part-time Instructor to fill the position of Musical Director for upcoming musical theater productions. Instructors lead and act as a role model to a group of participants in a specific area of the performing/fine arts. Instructors develop, implement and engage participants in classes, lessons, workshops, performances, pop-up events, etc. in their specific field/specialty. Primary tasks and responsibilities for this position include: • Attend auditions and collaborate on casting with the show director and choreographer. • Attend creative team meetings with Director and Choreographer to develop the overall vision of the show. • Plan, prepare and attend rehearsals. Adhere to a teaching schedule set by the director or Theater Coordinator. • Lead vocal warm ups and exercises, as well as teach music to the cast. • Accompany cast on piano during first half of rehearsals, as sound tracks will be used for the second half of rehearsals and for performances (no conducting, no musicians) • Instruct and manage a group of approximately 8 – 25 students. This position is for approximately 2 - 4 hours per week with additional hours for tech week and performances. • Fall/Winter Production Rehearsals o Wednesday Evenings and/or Saturday Mornings • Winter/Spring Production Rehearsals o Tuesday Evenings and/or Thursday Evenings • Additional hours required for tech week and performances of Main Stage Shows • Summer Camp hours for Musical Theater Camp may be included in June & July Qualified applicants must have two years of teaching experience as a Musical Director (Theater) or Choir Director. Bachelor’s degree in Music, Theater or Music Education from an accredited institution preferred. Candidates for this position will work closely with the Theater Department Coordinator and must be able to work with students of all ages and skill levels, with a specific focus on youth grades 4 – 8. Applicants must be professional and display leadership qualities in and out of the classroom and may be the lead instructor during rehearsals. In addition, the applicant should possess excellent problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills. Applicants must be able to work in a team environment. This position is slotted as a P3 on Solon’s part-time wage scale which offers a starting range from $17.00/hour. Compensation will be determined based upon previous education, performance, and teaching experience. When the wicked Queen, disguised in Groucho glasses, tries to finish her off, a quick response from Prince Heimlich saves her, and the day! Cast size is 8-10 characters. Rehearsals for *Snow White Lite* will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 pm starting on Monday, May 2, 2022. 13-17 year olds will present *The Great American Talent Show*. It is the final night of the yearlong TV talent show to end all talent shows! The finalists anxiously await their final shot at fame and fortune, while the three self-important judges cajole or praise the contestants in hilarious ways. Dancing Classrooms Northeast Ohio Accepting credentials for 2022 - 2023 Teaching Artists The Dancing Classrooms program is a ten-week, twenty-session social development program that uses ballroom dancing as its "tool" for getting children to break down social barriers, learn about respect, treat others carefully, improve self-confidence, communicate, cooperate, and accept others even if they are different. Dancing Classrooms is not about teaching ballroom dancing. Our mission is to build social awareness, confidence, and self-esteem in children through the practice of social dance. We are currently seeking Teaching Artists who have: * The belief that every child can learn and excel, regardless of shape, size, family situation, or ethnic background * A passion for dance and creative expression that is easily communicated to, and contagious among, children * Self-confidence in his/her dance and artistic abilities * High expectations for what every child can achieve through the program * An ability to express themself verbally in such a way that deserves attention * An understanding of children's classroom dynamics and how to manage behavior * Flexibility and a good sense of humor Dancing Classrooms Teaching Artists are: actors, dancers, and individuals who can move with rhythm; have excellent interpersonal skills; enjoy working with children; are able to work in person in school classrooms; have a generous spirit; a sense of humor, and willingness to travel throughout Northeast Ohio. You will be fingerprinted with the state of Ohio upon employment. Teaching Artists are paid on an hourly basis as seasonal, part-time employees. Employment is during the school year, on school days, between the hours of 7:30 am - 4:00pm. Teaching Artists are seasonal part-time employees that are paid on an hourly basis ($30/hour). Requirements: Make a solid commitment to a sequential ten-week residency two days per week in person at a school(s) during the hours of 7:30am and 4:00pm. Applicants must be available to attend training. Training dates will be July 25 - 29, 2022 (Monday - Friday) from 8:00am - 3:00pm and August 12, 2022 (Time TBD based on candidates availability).
