*The Dark Room at CPT on May 9th!* *This month: Open Mic! * The Dark Room is a place where writers take center stage and their work has a chance to grow. The Dark Room is an ongoing event held on the second Tuesday of each month. The Dark Room affords emerging and veteran playwrights the space and resources to develop new works. It offers a venue to workshop plays, novels, poems, or any other written work in a supportive, yet critical environment. *Tuesday, May 9th* *The Church at CPT* (Just east of the Gordon Square Theatre Box Office) Cleveland Public Theatre 6415 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102 *FREE Great Lakes Beer!* *7:00pm: *Sign-up begins for writers and actors (space is limited). Writers can bring up to 10 pages of work to be read; actors will be cast on the spot! *7:30pm: *Open Mic Session readings begin Suggested donation of $5 is welcomed at the door, but not required. Set in a hospital, "It Runs in the Family" contains the usual assortment of farcical nuts running in & out of doors, mistaking everybody for someone else. Dr. Mortimer tries to fend off a paternity suit, his wife, a punkish daughter & various other lunatics so that he may, at last, deliver the Ponsonby Lecture in an international conference. This is farce at its best as the situation spins hilariously out of control in typical Ray Cooney fashion. One character after another is bounding through doors that swing or slam in the doctor's lounge at St. Andrews Hospital & some are even crawling along the snowy ledge outside. Or do you really love the characters you've created and want to explore them a bit more? > We are currently seeking original, unpublished plays to be featured in the festival. If the play that is being submitted has been previously performed (outside of a staged reading or a workshop), please include that information with your submission. > > Our theme for this year is Relationships – romantic, familial, platonic, any kind of relationship you can think of. > > Submissions are open now and the deadline for submitting is August 31st at 11:59 PM EST. We are currently only seeking submissions from local playwrights (Northeast Ohio), but if there are any questions about that please contact us. > > Guidelines: > > 1. The play must run 15 – 20 minutes long. The maximum is 20 minutes. > 2. The maximum number of actors involved in each play is 4. If there are additional characters that will be doubled, please indicate that information on the character list. > 3.
