The Civil War is over and throughout the south, slaves are being freed, soldiers are returning home and in Jewish homes, the annual celebration of Passover is being celebrated. Into the chaos of war-torn Richmond comes Caleb DeLeon, a young Confederate officer who has been severely wounded. He finds his family's home in ruins and abandoned, save for two former slaves, Simon and John, who wait in the empty house for the family's return. As the three men wait for signs of life to return to the city, they wrestle with their shared past, the bitter irony of Jewish slave-owning and the reality of the new world in which they find themselves. The sun sets on the last night of Passover and Simon - having adopted the religion of his masters - prepares a humble Seder to observe the ancient celebration of the freeing of the Hebrew slaves from Egypt, noting with particular satisfaction the parallels to their current situation. This one-act two-hander has all the elements for which this theater and its audience have a particular fondness: Romance, good writing, simple production values, and the founding artistic director walking the boards. Opening night will be Thursday, March 3rd and continuing every Thursday. Beginner swing dance lesson with multi- year, world champion swing dancer Valerie Salstrom and Loreto Agdinaoay from 7-8. We will usually teach Jitterbug but will occasionally offer lessons in Lindy, Balboa, and Charleston. These special topic lessons will be announced in advance. DJed swing, R & B, big band, jazz standards, trad jazz, blues and early rock and roll and do wop music from 8-11. You will hear everything from the 1920s - 1950s plus some more modern music too. Everything will be happening on the second floor. Come early for a meal and a drink. Tomo Hibachi and Sushi is located at 1293 West 9th Street. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Auditions begin this weekend for Rabbit Run Theaters 2016 season Audition appointments are now being taken for the 2016 summer season at Rabbit Run Theater in Madison, Ohio. The productions for the summer are You Cant Take It with You, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Carousel, a Concert and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). Auditions run three weekends, Mar. 5 and 6 for You Cant Take It with You, Mar. 12 and 13 for The Complete Works of William Shakespeare and Mar. 19 and 20 for the musicals, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Carousel, a Concert. You Cant Take It with You is a comedy by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman. Show dates are June 3 through June 18. The Sycamore family live moment by moment for the sheer joy of living. A little quirky and off the wall, they meet the world head on, eyes unflinching. The apple cart is upset when granddaughter Alice falls for Tony Kirby, son of Anthony P. Kirby, one of the countrys most wealthy and powerful men. Multiple roles are available for men and women, ages 18 to 75. The show is directed by Ann Hedger. Auditions are Saturday, Mar. 5, and Sunday, Mar. 6, 1 to 4 p.m. both days. Auditions will consist of reading from the script. Actors need not prepare a monologue. The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) written by Jess Borgeson, Adam Long and Daniel Singer, runs from Aug. 12 through Aug. 28 . This fast-paced comedy performs excerpts from all 37 of Shakespeares plays in 97 minutes. It is Londons longest-running comedy having run for nine years in Londons West End. Multiple roles are available for men and women, ages 16 and up. The show is directed by Mark Cipra. Auditions are Saturday, Mar. 12, 3 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Mar. 13, 2 to 5 p.m. Actors will read from the script and do not need to prepare a monologue. Thoroughly Modern Millie with lyrics by Dick Scanlan and music by Jeanine Tesori, opens June 24 and runs through July 10. Production dates for Rodgers and Hammersteins Carousel, a Concert are July 22 through Aug. 6. Thoroughly Modern Millie recounts the story of young Millie Dillmount as she arrives in New York City with nothing but big dreams to find a wealthy husband. Set in the roaring twenties, the show is filled with flappers, dashing leading men and a villainess people love to hate. Billy Bigelow, the lead in Carousel, a Concert, is a carefree carnival barker who captivates and marries naïve Julie Jordan. Amidst hard luck and rash decisions, life takes some hard turns for Billy until a second chance makes all the difference. Multiple roles are available for both musicals for men and women, ages 15 and up. The director for both shows is Brint Learned. Musical direction for Thoroughly Modern Millie is provided by Danielle Jones, and musical direction for Carousel, a Concert is provided by Alex Ulle. Auditions for the musicals are Saturday, Mar. 19, from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, Mar. 20, 1 to 5 p.m. Actors auditioning for the musicals should be prepared to sing 16 measures of a Broadway-style song.
