(late Aug. - Oct. 16) PRODUCTION DETAILS LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is a dark musical comedy based on the cult Roger Corman film of the same name. Actively seeking a diverse cast for this production. SYNOPSIS: Seymour is a hapless floral shop clerk who raises a strange and exotic plant with an insatiable appetite for human blood. This plant may just be his ticket out of "Skid-Row" and to win the girl of his dreams...but can they escape the plant's scheme for world domination? Mixing Motown, B-movies, and the American Dream, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is a screamingly funny, gleefully twisted, out-of-this-world hit musical. A genuine, caring man who is taken for granted due to his clumsy ways and poor social skills. Bari-Tenor; vocal range: A2-G4 Audrey: Female, mid 30s - early 40s, All Ethnicities A girl from the wrong side of the tracks who always finds herself dating the wrong guy. A sweet gal with low self esteem but beautiful dreams. Ellen-Greene-type. Soprano with mix/belt; vocal range G#3-D5 Mr. Mushnik: Male, 50s, Caucasian Seymour and Audrey's boss and owner of a failing East Side "Skid-Row" flower shop. Profit driven, greedy and manipulative. Baritone; vocal range G2-F4 Crystal, Ronette and Chiffon: Female, 18 - late 20s, All Ethnicities Street urchins who act as the Greek Chorus throughout the production. Young, hip, and full of "swag"; these girls are the only oneswho have a grip on reality. Low Alto to Belt Soprano; vocal range Ab3-F5. Strong dance abilities are necessary; the choreographer is looking for performers who can execute choreography in the style of Yanis Marshall with 1950s elements integrated. Orin Scrivello D.D.S.: Male, 30s, All Ethnicities An egotistical "bad-boy" dentist wiht a dark sadistic side. This actor also plays other roles throughout the show and must have strong comedic chops. Baritone; vocal range G2-G4 Voice of the Plant "Audrey II": Male, 18+, All Ethnicities An actor/vocalist with a strong R&B and soul voice; located offstage. A conniving, street-smart "villain" who is a cross between Wolfman Jack, Barry White and Levi Stubbs. "Dancing Wheels' Premiere of 'Labyrinth: A Tribute' at Cain Park on August 12th"

The Dancing Wheels Company Reimagines “Labyrinth” for Cleveland Audiences at Cain Park! About the Performance June 30, 2016: In 2010, then Company member, Dezare’ Foster first proposed her vision to create a story ballet based on the mysterious world of the “Labyrinth”. She said “My inspiration comes directly from the 80s film with Jim Henson’s puppetry, featuring music by David Bowie. I watched this movie as a young child and as I grew up, David Bowie’s music has stayed close to my heart.” When she introduced the idea to Founding Artistic Director, Mary Verdi-Fletcher, she commented “the idea sounded fascinating, but the timing in which the Company could produce such a venture was just not right.” Verdi-Fletcher did however make a promise to someday bring the production to the stage. That promise along with Dezare’s vision will finally come to fruition on August 12th when the Dancing Wheels Company takes to the Cain Park stage for the world premiere performance of Labyrinth: A Tribute.The fabled story first conceived by Jim Henson and Dennis Lee was made into a feature film that showcased Bowie’s talents as an actor, musician and vocalist. Now for the first time, this story will be reinvented for a live on stage production featuring lead characters, Sarah and the Goblin King, portrayed by Dancing Wheels Company members, Sara Lawrence-Sucato and Demarco Sleeper. As a strong wheelist, Sleeper, along with Lawrence-Sucato demonstrate athleticism and power in their many encounters and adventures. Foster said her desire to create this new work with the Dancing Wheels Company was because “it was not only an integrated Company but also a strong, raw, eccentric and diverse group of dancers.” She went on to say “With these characteristics and the charisma that each dancer possesses, I believe they can truly relay the overall message of this particular story.” Other endearing characters are Toby, Sarah’s sister portrayed by Emily Schwarting and Gigi, Sarah’s guiding light portrayed by Mary Verdi-Fletcher. The production brings to life a whole host of scenes that include the 12 member cast, ranging from the dark depths of the Labyrinth to the spirited and fun loving land where the “magic dance” takes place. At the conclusion of the production the audience will be left with the intended moral of the story…. Much like Sarah, we must take responsibility for our choices and with perseverance, friendship and love, we can overcome anything. In addition to the premiere of Labyrinth: A Tribute, two additional pieces from the Dancing Wheels repertory will be performed; Wall of Glasschoreographed by Lisa K. Lock and an excerpt of Anomalies choreographed by Mark Tomasic. Next Saturday, July 30th, The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival will be hosting the next gathering of it's revitalized series---OPEN MIC SHAKESPEARE, from 2:00-4:30pm at the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Lee rd. Public Library! We will be reading the second half of the "The Tragedy of Cymbeline." Open Mic Shakespeare is an ongoing play-reading series brought to you by The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival. One day each month, we invite anyone and everyone to stop in and read a Shakespeare play with us, at a cool spot in the Greater Cleveland area. We'll be meeting next Saturday, July 30th, 2-4:30pm, at the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Lee Rd. Public Library, Meeting Room B. Like our classic summer performance season, entry to Open Mic Shakespeare is absolutely free, now and forever. Once the reading is done, head on over to Grove Amphitheater in Mayfield Village to see CSF's free and exciting production of Shakespeare's stormy but magical tale, "The Tempest!" Show starts at 7pm!
