It's a race against the clock: the petals of the enchanted rose are falling, and an angry mob is storming the castle door... will the curse be broken before the last petal falls and the Beast and his household are doomed for all eternity? This classic tale of spiritual awakening and personal metamorphosis challenges Belle and the Beast - and all of us - to re-think our definitions of love, beauty and inclusion. Based on the French fairy tale "La Belle et le Bête" by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, this classic story has countless adaptations, including two incredible Disney films, featuring music and lyrics by the Tony Award-winning team of Alan Menken, Tim Rice, and the late Howard Ashman. This is our extravagant holiday show for the entire family's enjoyment! It runs for four whole weekends and is sure to sell out - get your tickets soon! "The HeArd, a program of Theatrical Interpreting Services of Cleveland, Incorporated, (TISC, Inc.) is a body of professional sign language interpreters who serve the TISC, Inc mission by providing high-quality creative sign language interpretation to the public performing arts of Northeast Ohio." Specialty seating in front of The HeArd performers for those in the deaf community will be provided. This sensory production will be performed in a friendly, supportive environment for an audience of families and friends of people who are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder or other sensitivity issues. There will be slight adjustments to the production including reduction of any jarring sounds or strobe lights focused into the audience. Also, there will be quite spaces and activity areas set up in the theatre lobby for those who need to leave their seats during the performance. *Shaker Theatre Arts Department <https://www.facebook.com/ShakerTheatre/> proudly presents its fall play, the Ohio premiere of SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, by Kate Hamill, based on the novel by Jane Austen, playing November 16-18 *at 7 pm, in the Large Auditorium at 15911 Aldersyde Drive, Shaker Heights, OH 44120. SENSE AND SENSIBILITY is a rollicking new adaptation by Kate Hamill of Jane Austen’s beloved novel that follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters—sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne—after their father’s sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Set in gossipy late 18th-century England, with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth, and bold theatricality. SENSE AND SENSIBILITY examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures. When reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart? Directed by Christine McBurney, the co-curricular production engages students enrolled in all six areas of the Shaker Heights High School Theatre Arts Department course curriculum: 1) the ensemble actor training program; 2) the writing program; 3) the guest artist, alumni, and community engagement program; 4) the Shakespeare/classical learning program; 5) the production training program; and 6) the technical studies program, as well as students not enrolled in classes, in a variety of roles: performers, musicians, managers, dramaturges, designers, and technicians. “You will surely be taken by the story about family love and romantic love, the color-blind and gender-neutral casting, Austen’s sharp social satire, and English country dancing. This is not your grandmother’s Jane Austen. On the 200th anniversary of Austen’s death, we are thrilled to produce this relevant play by living female playwright, Kate Hamill, whom American Theatre Magazine identified as the 14th most produced playwright and whose play is the 10th most produced in the country’s 2017-2018 theatrical season,” says director, Christine McBurney. Eric Tucker, Bedlam Theatre Artistic Director and director of the Off-Broadway world premiere production said in an email to McBurney, "I love the idea of high school students doing [Sense and Sensibility]!" The adult team also includes Scott J. Sumerak (Co-Producer), Chuck Tisdale (Scenic & Lighting Designer), Laurie Brem (Box Office Manager), Kevin Parker ’13 of Inlet Dance Theatre (Movement Specialist), Cathleen O’Malley (Movement Specialist), Janet Larsen (Choreographer), Harold Crawford (Costume Designer), and Inlet Dance Theatre workshops with Parker and Erin Pennebaker. The Shaker students and staff wish to extend their gratitude to its Patrons who funded guest artist residencies for Mr. Parker and Ms. O’Malley. Under the able direction of Dave MacKeigan, the cast of Jonathan McCleery, Deb Burrow, Judy MacKeigan, Kristina Rivera, Becky Linder, Kevin Boland and Elizabeth Flood will leave you in stitches. This classic play, originally written and professionally produced in the 1940s, never fails to tickle audiences with its unusual twists and turns. Charles Condomine finds himself a a real pickle post seance when his sexy, yet dead, wife suddenly appears and refuses to go away. His current wife, none too pleased with the triangle demands that he get rid of her. That proves easier said than done and the hilarity that ensues is well worth the price of admission.
