WEEKEND HAPPENINGS AT THE WEST THEATER IN BARBERTON Spanky, Alfalfa, Darla, Superman and Mickey Rooney are all at The West Theater in Barberton, Ohio this weekend. On Friday at 7:30 and Saturday at 2:00 and 7:30, it’s THE LITTLE RASCALS-A-THON. Over fours hours of Rascals fun all for only $5.00 for Adults, $3.00 for Children & Senior Citizens. Sunday is Family Day at The West with SUPERFEST, a compilation of Max Fleischer Superman Cartoons. All seats are $3.00. Then Sunday night at 7:00 come watch our tribute to the Indy 500. MASSACRE (SING TO YOUR CHILDREN) BY JOSÉ RIVERA NOW ONSTAGE AT CONVERGENCE-CONTINUUM POWERFUL DEPICTION OF A VIOLENT RESPONSE TO LIVING UNDER A REPRESSIVE PLUTOCRATIC REGIME,AND OF OUR OWN ROLE IN PERPETUATING THE TYRANNY. After enduring five years of psychological and physical terror, seven citizens of a small New Hampshire town stage a revolt and murder the man who has destroyed them--or do they? Magic realism and pulp horror-movie events collide when the seven friends conspire to brutally rid their small town of its viciously oppressive mayor. Massacre is directed by convergence-continuum’s Artistic Director, Clyde Simon, and features actors Wesley Allen, Lucy Bredeson-Smith, Dennis Burby, Jamal Davidson, Beau Reinker, Kelsey Rubenking, Brian Westerley and Hillary Wheelock. Master’s students grades 9 - 11 assist instructors in teaching Vocal Performance, Dance, Acting, Improv & Crafts along with participating in our all camp production, “ Pinocchio, The Musical”. Dunamis Theatre is proud to present IGNITION: A Staged Reading Series. To Kick off the series we invite you to come and enjoy Yellow by author and comedian Del Shores. Event is a $5 suggested donation at the door. When: Thursday May 25 Doors open at 7:30pm and reading starts at 8:00pm Where: The Rialto Theatre 1000 Kenmore Blvd. Akron, Ohio 44303 About Yellow: Yellow chronicles a year in the life of the perfect family in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Bobby Westmoreland, a high school football coach, and his wife Kate, a respected therapist, have two ambitious children in high school. Their son Dayne is the golden football star while their daughter Gracie is an overly-dramatic actress. Gracie’s best friend is a young gay boy, Kendall, who is at constant odds with his abusive, fundamentalist mother, Sister Timothea. The play opens with the start of the football season and high school auditions for “Oklahoma.” Everything falls apart when an unexpected tragedy rocks the Westmoreland family to the breaking point. Yellow explores the themes of cowardice, intolerance and the damage caused to families by secrets, rejection and the difficulty of forgiveness. About IGNITION: 'the action of setting something on fire or starting to burn'-Ignition Each IGNITION staged reading will be a chamber of ideas for the future production of the play. Through lighting the fires of live theater the production begins to take form. The cast molds as an ensemble, the mood and tone take shape, the audience falls in love with the story, and the play begins to IGNITE. The event is open to those 16 and over.
